was wondering if a cat back exhuast and a intake system will really help with some extra power. or does it really just make more sound. i have a 99 4runner limited 4x4. if so what set ups do you guys suggest. i tow 4wheelers every weekend and could use a few more ponnies and some torque. any suggestions that you think may help. and my wallet is not filled either. thanks for your help.

well im not sure on a stand point of 4runners, but when I owned my 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee the I-6 4.0L

The Horsepower and Torque are pretty much the same.

On my Jeep I added a 2.5" Cat Back Exhaust with Borla muffler on it. I also added a 6"x9" K&N Air Intake, with a Throttle Body and Throttle body Spacer.

I noticed some performance but not worth all the money that I dumped into besides the sweet sound.

If I was to do any mod again it would be exhaust with a set of headers.

I've heard some horror stories about non TRD headers. Look up deckplate mod on yotatech.com I think its gives about a 5-7 hp bump on the dyno for around $12. True flow air filter about$40 not much of a bump (if any) just a little more response. I think the deckplate mod gives more hp than those intake systems. The only way to get what you're wanting is to put a SC on it. And with a properly installed one you can get better gas mileage and hp, but thats some $$$ for the SC and all things needed to properly run one.

If you want anything really noticeable it'll cost and the SC is really the simplest and affordable HP jump.

Exhaust, headers and intake might net you 15whp and the headers IMO aren't worth the cost for that part of the little gain but headers do help out with a SC.

Avoid the throttle body spacer since those do nothing on a direct port injection motor like the 3.4s.

Like said above, the $1000 or whatever you will spend on I/H/E will NOT make any noticable difference. Either get gears, Supercharger or the cheapest way to make more power is......NOS. :D (But I would never do it).

not only can you do Sc you can do Turbo Charged. the Sc would make a world of different in towing. but all of these are bank.

-muffler in my gf ears are just annoying, cuse by the drone in the cab.

-header arent worth it unless your turbo/SC.

-as for the Intake mod. it wouldnt really matter when your towing since its a small gain in HP.

Be a man and supercharge it. I promise you wont regret it, i did mune with 85000 miles on it and I love it had it for just over a year now and it pulls hard with 35's and trailors.

The reason I didn't mention SC or TC, is because he said he wallet was not filled? Keyword and yes you can get a lil extra umph from headers and exhaust
