Looking to Buy - Questions as I search

The pros are:
-airflow through the cabin without much wind noise (especially if you add a wind deflector from weather tech)
-with the visor opened and the window closed you have more light inside the vehicle more open feel to the ride.
-long rides at night on the beach with the moon roof lol opened can do alot on date nights IMO lol.
-just a nice accessory durring the right time's I use mine often, then sometimes go weeks with it closed all depends on the weather. I personly made it a deal breaker durring my purchase I've always had one on my older cars and loved them when i step into a newer vehicle i wasnt goin in without it lol.
the cons are:
-potential for leaks (avoided by keeping the seals cleaned and insuring proper alignment of the tracks)
-if the drain holes for the track get cloged up it can cause water to seep into the cabin and soak into your floor through the a-pillar( just keep your drain holes/hoses cleared)
-one more window to clean durring a car wash (just dont look up? lol cant really avoid this one)
-allows more heat transfer through the glass into the cabin durring summer time (but you can crack the vent side and close the visor to counter this one)
-if the suns at the right angle with the visor opened the sun can be somewhat annoying but again you can close it up.

no problem im supprised you didnt get a bunch of responses hating on sunroofs as some people have had bad experiences with them and wound up getting it closed and siliconed? unsure why, they wouldnt put them on so many cars if they weren't a good design and most of the people who've had problems with them never look in the tracks of the sunroof when they clean there car if they clean there car. dust and debree just has the ability to build up in there in the tracks in the drain holes and it just takes a little extra maintance and you can have something really nice

People that love moon-roofs, LOVE them...
I personally have no need for them. I've owned cars with them and never use it. My wife's' car has one and neither of us use it. I've noticed with hers, that when we go through one of those automated car washes, the wind visor tends to hold a lot of soap in it when you get out of the wash... Not good.
Plus as an engineer, I'm a firm believer in the more bells and whistles you've got, the more systems that can fail you. Also don't believe in paying for something that I won't use, but I'm not trying to deter you, because I've heard many people say that they couldn't ever have a car without their moon-roof. Just not for me. Good luck!

It's not a must and not ever having one makes me wonder if it's something i would use or if I'm going to just pay extra for something that looks nice.
My husband has one with his Camry and it's creeks. Has ever since he purchased it (next to new).
I've driven his car often and have used it maybe twice. It's kind of loud.
I guess it's kind of good that it's taking some time to sell my current 4runner. It's giving me time to really weigh my options. Maybe I just purchase the sport hood, do the mods I want and just keep it :shrug:

I agree on the car wash deal though i never take my 4runner through the automated car washes but when i wash my truck in the drive way i always try to park the truck at an angle so the water runs off the roof towards the rear, i still spend probably an extra 10-15 minutes just hosing out the pocket the wind visor creates so I suppose the main con to a sunroof is added maintainence just cleaning ofcourse but still additional work. I'll also add that im a smoker so some weather makes having a cigarette less enjoyable having to have one of the side windows down like when its really cold i can just crack the sun roof an vent the smoke but that would be an extremely personal Pro to add to a sunroof as not everyone smokes nor is it really positive to say hey sunroofs make smoking easy, as its really not a good habit i hate i picked it up myself.
Supermans very correct in saying people that love them LOVE them, and others just dont care much for them. Also it is an extra bell to ring from time to time. however I've never heard a salesman try to use a sunroof as a sales pitch to add money to the purchase price but i certainly wouldnt put it past them either lol. If you did have salesman tell you that oh its has a sunroof thats why it cost more just say something like oh so your charging me for more maintainence ill just go somewhere else.. they change there tune real quick if you dont let them push BS all over the sale. When i bought my wifes mustange the salesman tryed to argue that because he was throughing in free camping chairs that we had a fair deal. 1.) those chairs fell appart within a few months of using them 2.) who the **** cares about a damn camping chair when purchasing a vehicle (specially a 2008 mustange GT/CS 5spd, not campin in this one buddy) lol. I stood up an walked away as soon as he said those few little BS words they called my phone before i could even open my truck door and accepted my offer. the sticker price of the mustange was like 37,000 i walked away with the car for 22,000 out the door. dealers hate me haha. it always helps knowing what they paid for the vehicle gives you an idea of how low you can bargain and know they're still making a fair profit.

The 4runner sunroofs have an automated lip that extends up when the roof is open to push air over the sun roof making the sunroof quiet, add a weathertech visor and it makes zero noise at all when opened other than the sound of another car passing by. I haven't had any creeking personly but i can't speak for everyone on that one.
If you dont need any capabilities of a newer truck that you can't add to the one you have it will be considerably cheaper in the long run to put the money into the truck you have now as apposed to getting into another loan adding interest, and or just the shear fact that when you sale your truck odds are against you getting all the money you have in it back out of it. So that loss plus cost of new vehicle compared to just making what you have even better than ever its way more expensive to buy the new truck with everything on it.
i believe that sport hood is really pricey and it looks good for sure but it has zero function so its really hard to justify that purchase but all in all the main thing is to get into a truck you love for sure

I'm really starting to second guess myself. I know it's only a decision that I can make, but I'm really starting to wonder if I should just stay with what I have.
I could easily come across a sport hood and have it color matched for minimal costs.
The sun roof is starting to become a 'maybe' at this point.
I still really like the white but would prefer the Shadow Mica (which seems to be high demand!)
My plans are to take the wheels and tires off anyways, so the sport wheels wouldn't be a big deal.
Thoughts?? Is this silly??
I don't drive my 4runner anymore. I haven't for the last 2-3 weeks. Now that it's detailed inside out I don't want a speck of dirt in or on it. Anal?... maybe.
It sure looks nice in the garage and I miss it terribly.
It's an immaculate truck (in my eyes) and it has no mechanical issues what so ever. I worry that I might trade it for one that could have creaks and rattles that might come along with it being used.

As most will tell you, it's always gonna be cheaper to stay in what you've got.
Especially since you know the history of it and that it's good to go. When buying somebody else' car, there is always some risk involved.
To want a new car for a non-functional hood scoop... well, that's kind of silly if you ask me. No offense Terry, I know women are wired different then us men, I've got a wife.
But if it's a must have, Javelin ordered one off of eBay already color matched and he seems happy with it.
Me? I LOVE my truck. I don't see me trading her or selling her for anything. Sure I'll eyeball those 07-09' Shadow Micah V8 Sports and drool a little, but when I think about car payments (mines been payed off for like 3 or 4 years), no thanks! This truck has been too good to me, and it is in my faithful nature to return that. So if it's something I lust for like, Navigation, leather, etc. I spend the money (easy when you don't have a car payment) and I treat my baby.
If you're on the fence. Just keep her. There's nothing saying you gotta sell now and buy something immediately. Hell the more you wait, the more used cars will become available and the more the price will go down. Maybe even to the point where yours is paid off and you buy a second one out right

That does help, thank you. I totally get what you mean, it's been nothing but great to me. Never left me stranded. Never had to put money into it (other then maintenance). You become attached to them in a weird way.. okay not weird like that guy on My Strange Addictions :repuke:

Well i can share a story that may give you more food for thought..
When i met my wife she drove a 2005 mustange V6 with one of there nicer trim packages automatic. She loved the look of it got the color she wanted, got a hood scoop and this one in particular had a black strip on the sides just above the rocker panels. She was happy with it as her first purchase; however, it wasn't her dream car. She's always been a mustange girl (unsure why personally lol) but she's always wanted a burgandy w/ black top convertable GT mustange 5spd with black interior hood scoops, side scoops, the big fog lights in the grill (you know the new body styles that look like the old shelby GT's) Anyways, she had been itching and itching to get her dream car and kind of kicked herself for not orginally investing the extra money to get the car she wanted. At this point she only owed about $5000 on her V6. As then one day we were driving through town with not much to do when we got on the car subject. I said well lets just go see what the local ford place had. I walked in and said I'm looking for a burgandy w/ black top convertable, GT 5spd w/ hood scoop, side scoops, and a black stripe down the side of the car. Thinking theres no way in hell they'll have that he'll have to order it blah blah blah and maybe my wife will deter her itch. We'll believe it or not he said well walk over here and see what he have. sure enough it was like the dealership preordered the dang thing knowing my wife wanted it or something weird. Anyway she saw it an fell in love. black and grey two tone interior premium sound 18" wheels georgious burgandy paint job 2008 body style 5spd 4.6L v8 w/ a black convertable top everything she wanted. We went in and started drawing papers on it after a test drive. We were young and i was in the mood at that point to say baby if this is your dream car lets get it you only live once. I worked my magic and got a great deal on the car. an we drove off. we'll 3 years down the road looking back. We both agreed that purchasing the mustange wasn't the best decision in the word. We only owed 5000 on the other mustange it would've been complete paid off and we would've been car payment free, instead we still have her additional loan payment of about 350 month. If I took the additional money that i had to spend to make more payments for a longer loan term I could've put a V8 in the V6 mustange, added side scoops and possibly even had the car converted to become a convertible lol. And if nothing else we would have a considerable more amount of money to do other things with than worry about cars. So IMO if you have a 4runner and it has the main bells and whistles you need then i would invest what money you can in the few items that will make it even more your baby than it already is. You'll find many other things in life that you'll desire and be greatfull you didnt spend the extra money to step into a similar vehicle with just a few added accessories. and your right you do have a chance of getting into a vehicle with perhaps more problems than yours does or experience more problems with the newer purchase. which will certainly make you sick you got rid of something that never gave you issues. Sunroofs, hoodscoops, paint, these are all things that can be added or modified to make your truck whatever you want your truck to be. Also because its what you custom made yourself or organized people to customize it for you you'll be even more proud of your own vehicle!

I was looking for a boat 3 years ago, and I was going to get one light enough to pull with my V70 Volvo. Well I found a red 18' Crownline that I really wanted, but knew the Volvo would never tow it.
(Look I use paragraphs, some others should learn to do this)
Well I decided to sell the Volvo and buy whatever I could buy that would tow the boat for whatever I get out of the Volvo. I sold the 98 V70 for $3800 and bought a 98 GMC Envoy V6 for $3500 and it towed the boat just fine. But my wife hated the Envoy and I thought it was a tow vehicle that did that quite well.
I always kept my eyes open though for a better tow vehicle with 4Runner's being one of the trucks on my short list. Then we started having trouble with one of my other Volvos and needed to replace it. We ended up buying an 06 BMW 330xi. Of course I still had the Envoy to tow the boat.
About a month later I see this 4Runner on Craigslist that is about $2k under KBB and it's real close to where we live. So we decided to go look at it. Didn't really care for the Dark Blue color or the tan interior, and there were quite a few scratches on the car from the previous owner's cat.
They were asking $12.5K and book was close to $14.5K, so I said what the heck and asked if they would take $10K. She said she was not thinking she would have to go that low and I was making a pretty big deal out of the scratches. I said how about $10.5K and she (a female Anestesiologist) asked if I would go $10,800 and I was really willing to go about $11,500, but I said well I'll think about it.
Her response was "You will go $10,500 but need to think about $10,800?" I just said yes and she said and you'll take it right now at $10,500 and I said yes again. Well now I have to say we like the 4Runner better than the BMW and almost all the scratches rubbed out.
Test driving it was what really sold us though. I would not have bought it had it not had the Sunroof or the leather interior. I could not believe how smooth it drove with the V8 and it was rated to tow quite a bit more than my boat weighs.
The color has really grown on me since I bought it too. I really wanted the dark grey, but settled for the dark blue because it was such a great deal. Sometime when I look at it sitting in the sunlight I really like the color. It does not look as dark when the sun is hitting it.
Sorry got a little carried away with the story.

It's funny you say that because when I bought mine, I also settled for white because it was a good deal. I liked white but I really wanted silver.
As I drive around town in a flippin' minivan I see several white 4runners around. They're pretty common around here and I think to myself how nice it actually looks. I think I've only seen Shadow Mica once or twice in real life.
All the ideas about the black on white starts sinking in my brain again and it reminds me how much I've grown to like white...and really thankful I didn't get a silver one. Nothing wrong with silver but that's probably the most common color around here.

I think your 4runner looks great! Plus the SM color is really hard to keep clean it shows every smug, scratch, blemish. Its a good color for sure but all things considered not worth trading in what you have.
If i was your 4runner i would say "how dare you for comparing me to another truck after all we've been through together!" lol.
and if you liking black and white a little more check out mine and superman's trucks they look goergous with blacked out headlights and grills and black wheels. supermans is way cleaner than mine but he would say he's just awesome like that haha. you'll have to see his pics to see what the blacked out headlights look light i haven't gotten to mine yet.

I hear ya! I do love the black wheels for sure. The black grill has not grown on me yet though. Don't shoot me for saying that :gun4:
I actually used to really hate the black wheels but the more I see them the more I like them, especially against white.
I need to have a little bit of red mixed in somewhere. Sounds weird, I know. I wish the tailgate had the 4RUNNER across the back like the Gen5 does.

As far as white cars go. I've only owned 4 cars. The first 2 silver the last 2 white, and aside from a 2nd 4th gen 4Runner Sport in Shadow Micah, I don't know that I could own another color. I love white! That's all me and my wife and in-laws will drive. She's sold on the black wheels as well. Like you said, the more she looks at mine, the more she wants them. Very low maintenance. That ugly brake dust (especially on the front rims) when dirty, is a non-issue.
Yeah, pretty sure it's all storm-troopers for me from here on out. People may say black wheels are played out... Well go back to chrome and aluminum then! Or better yet, do them some other ugly color. I'll stick to black.

As far as white cars go. I've only owned 4 cars. The first 2 silver the last 2 white, and aside from a 2nd 4th gen 4Runner Sport in Shadow Micah, I don't know that I could own another color. I love white! That's all me and my wife and in-laws will drive. She's sold on the black wheels as well. Like you said, the more she looks at mine, the more she wants them. Very low maintenance. That ugly brake dust (especially on the front rims) when dirty, is a non-issue.
Yeah, pretty sure it's all storm-troopers for me from here on out. People may say black wheels are played out... Well go back to chrome and aluminum then! Or better yet, do them some other ugly color. I'll stick to black.
