I'm looking at getting a 5th gen but am not sure what is the best option and year to look for. It does have to be 4x4. I mainly do mild trails and sand. I may advance to something a little more difficult but I have another off road toy for that. I'm not sure if the trail option would be best or if a regular sr5 would cut it. And I guess the limited is just more for comfort correct?

You can probably get through most in a sr5 4x2 and driving skills
But really here is how i would break down the models:
SR5
color matched bumpers, 3rd row optional
TRAIL
KDSS, Multiterrain mode, crawl control, rear locker, high output alternator, decent stock wheels
Limited
20" wheels, full time AWD, 3rd row optional, chrome, xreas, different front bumper that some prefer
SR5 and TRAIL both have premium additions to add moonroofs and leather seats, but for me i went with a regular trail then added the KDSS instead, i figured if i got an SR5 i would be missing out on some extra stuff the trail comes with and going limited wasn't even an option for me.
