Looking to get a 3" Lift

After reading up for weeks, I have found everyone has a different opinion on every lifting method. Im stuck between the two options for my '01 3rd Gen 4Runner 151k miles:

1) A basic billet spacer kit using the stock springs

OR

2) 3" spacers with rear OME Coils from Toytec

This lift is strictly esthetic and I will not be doing any type of off roading, just simply for looks. I have heard both positive and negative like "youll be bouncing all over the road" OR "Best option for the cost" etc. What would you suggest it the better option??

If you are NOT replacing your original (151k mile) shocks, then changing to a OME rear spring won't ride very good. It might for a little while, but it all depends on how healthy the original shocks are.

So: spacers front and rear if you are not replacing your shocks. If you are willing to replace some or all of the shocks, then going to an OME 890 rear spring works fine.

The Daystar spacer lifts really do work fine for a 2wd rig that's just driving on the pavement 100% of the time. But you have to realize that you're starting with the short 2wd stock springs, so adding spacers doesn't get you as much overall lift. If you only added a 3" (3" lift....the actual spacer is less than 3") front spacer, but went to the OME 890 in the rear you'd have a decent amount of rake I think.

3" lift

Thanks for the response, so what you are saying is if I were to go with the sencond option, the ride could possibly still be fairly harsh unless I change coils all around? Or would I be ok with doing the front spacers and and the rear OME's?

For aesthetics just get spacers. Otherwise do the Tundra/LC coil. I'm currently working on pulling the parts together for my lift. I'm currently running spacers (I bought the truck this way), and will get rid of them once my lift is complete if you're interested. It'll give you 2" in the front and 2.5" in the back.

I think you are confusing "coils" and "shocks". Coils are the springs (the Toytec kit comes with front spacers and new OME rear springs). Shocks are what provide the dampening. None of the cheap spacer lift kits come with shocks. If the shocks on your truck are a plain all-black shock, then they are the originals, or oem replacements.

Yea I think I was too, after reading that your first post makes more sense to me now, thanks a lot!

Yea I read about doing that on here ealier today, I have to check the around the local yards and eventually go for that option. I have seen a couple spacer kits in the range of $140-$200 so that is no problem.

This is what came on my truck when I bought it. 3" spacer lift in front and aftermarket springs/shocks in the back (OME 891s and Tacoma 8000 series shocks). I find the ride quite decent, but I'm used to suspensions on the stiffer side too. Truck sits level when empty.
