Looking to order a 15

So I am looking to order a trail premium because they are apparently impossible to find around where I live with KDSS. One of my questions is for you guys thats have KDSS and a lift, do you still feel the price for KDSS was worth it? Ive read that some people take it off after any suspension work. I do plan on lifting it eventually.

My other question is about the factory remote start option. Does anyone with a SR5 or trail edition have that option that was factory installed? Does it use the original key or does it require an additional fob?

I have a lift on ours and still like having KDSS. However I don't have a long travel lift, which is where you would not want to have KDSS. So it depends on what lift you plan on getting, and what you intend to do with the truck.

Realistically my wife will be driving it 90% of the time as a daily driver. Then once its paid off I will take over it as my toy, and most likely will wait until then to lift it and start building it. I think it could definitely benefit her awful driving style lol but am thinking also that is $1,750 I could apply towards an icon lift kit and it may drive even better then if it had KDSS.

Olathe KS toyota has a mag grey TEP w/KDSS and floor mats only coming in January. I opted for a silver at another dealership but it is definitely alloacted to this dealer. Come to KC and have some BBQ and drive it a few hours home.

If it was silver or white, I definitely would. But we live down over a mile of dirt road so my wife and I decided it was going to be white or silver this go around... tired of the dark colors as we can't keep them clean enough to look good.

If u know of a white or silver trail premium though, please let me know....

And to the icon and KDSS combo, thats what im wanting for sure. But $$$$ plays a big part too

silver will hide the dirt/dust the best out of all colors. the warden hates my silver 4runner but for being in winter season 6-8 months of the year, I don't have time to wash this vehicle or do it properly during the winter months.

Yeah unfortunately trails are very hard to come by around here especially if I am picky about color, which I am.

Skip the Toyota remote start. Go with Compustar.

As for the KDSS, I opted not to get it because I see it as something that will eventually need to be serviced or replaced. I've seen what dealers charge for this and decided against it. I also knew I'd be lifting it with decent coil-overs so I would eventually get better high speed handling anyway.

I'd drive both and see what you think.

Driving both is not really an option so far as there are none with kdss around here. Although I did drive a trd pro and found its ride very acceptable, so would adding bilsteins to a non kdss make it ride the same as a trd pro? Would icons on a non kdss ride even better then the pro?

I haven't had the chance to drive a TRDP but my 4runner rides a whole lot better now with the Icon COs and rear SAW springs. I would also say it rides better than a stock KDSS 4runner now. I'm not sure how a KDSS 4runner would handle with my setup though.

Mine rides nice with KDSS but I haven't had it off road yet. It took about three months for the dealership to find one for me though.

Dont get me wrong the fancy stuff would be cool too but I dont lake adding more things (fosb) to my pocket. Lol my Cummins has the stuff where I can remote start it from my truck and all that cool stuff and I very rarely use it, the remote start from my fob though I use all the time.

So does no one know if tot adds an extra fob to the collection or uses the original key? The dealership doesn't know either.

I agree on the Compustar remote start. Just had one installed on my Mazda 3. With my 4Runner remote you have to be like 500' with my Compustar I bought the one with 2000'. Yes I have a small 2 way remote with this new starter but you can add smart phone.

I have the remote start in my 2013 TE and it is built into the main key, so to answer your question there will still be only one key on your ring if you opt for the remote start.

FWIW, I have used the remote start only a handful of times. It works, but I park my T4R in the garage so I don't start it with the remote often. The one thing I don't like about it is that after you start it with the remote and eventually get into the vehicle it shuts off when you put the key in the ignition and you have to start it again. I wish I could just put the key in the ignition to unlock the steering wheel and go. It bugs me that the car has to be restarted before you can get on your way.

Thanks for your input. That is weird that it works that way. Our escape had remote start and would shut off the vehicle if you put your foot on the brake, but not if you just stuck the key in and turned it...

One other question about ur factory remote start. Can u still unlock all your doors with the fob after a remote start, or is keyless disabled and you have to use your actual key to unlock a door?

The main reason to avoid the factory remote start is lack of range. I've tried a couple of them and the range is terrible. That doesn't work for me when I'm leaving work. My next complaint is running time. For me, it's too short of a run time. Again, the short run time doesn't work for me were I work. The third reason to avoid it is the unnecessary engine shutdown when you unlock the door.

Is the compustar the same way?

A lot of the OEM asian remote starts work that way.

The Compustar will shut off the engine if you press the brake pedal or open the hood during remote start. It does not shut off the engine when the door is opened. I can get in while it is remote started, insert the key, turn it to run, and drive away. I can also engage a remote start take-over when the vehicle is already running (it will not engage the starter though) and lock it for times when I just need to run in the 7-11 real quick. My OEM remotes still work and can also control the Compustar alarm/remote start. Honestly, I don't really need to carry the Compustar remotes but I still do.

I have the basic FTX1400 remotes but the range is really impressive. The most convenient item is the Drone Mobile module. Being able to lock,unlock,start, and check on my vehicle no matter how far apart I am from it is really nice. The alerts come in pretty damn quick too.

I'm not sure what the installed price would be. I bought all the components from a member here who is a Compustar pro dealer and installed it myself.

@gshawdow325 may be able to locate a Compustar dealer closer to you.

You may be able to find a good installer that would be willing to install the Compustar stuff for you.
