Looking to pick up a first gen; advice needed

Hey everybody, looking to pick up a first gen 4runner to use as a daily beater/work truck. I plan to use the truck for hauling photographic equipment and also towing my car to the track, so reliability is key. I don't mind wrenching, as I own a 97 M3 that is currently a street/track build, but for the time being I need something that will get me from point A to point B without any real issues. My budget is around 1500. I found this example pretty local to me, let me know what you guys think.

A 1st or 2nd gen will have a 22re(great engine) or 3.0(not so great engine). Either way, neither one is suited to car hauling. That's best suited to full-size V-8 pickups. If ur set on a 4RNR then a 4th gen V-8 would be the best choice, although with only a $1500 budget ur very limited.

After looking at the CL ad, I'd say pass on it. Too many red flags. He says he has no space for it, yet is willing to trade for a truck with a 3.4...he totals up a list of 'new' parts that cost more than what he's asking. He just hosed the dirt off it cause its probably been sitting for God knows how long. Oh yea, it's been 'timed' with a 'timing light'..? Really! U mean they didn't use a banana! Good to know. IMHO, Run!!! :lookout:

I found another one, with significantly lower miles, but I'm wary of the mileage. If no issues or recent maintennance, it indicates that there will be some soon. Through lurking the forums I've read that these cars have HGs go bad between 150-200k pretty regularly. Thoughts?
