I've got a tube Smitty now, but I just bought an original chrome 1988 bumper on eBay, so I need to figure out all of the end caps, brackets, hardware, etc. that I need to mount it all.
Why do I want the 1985 style valance? I just think it looks cleaner and I'm willing to butcher some new aftermarket brackets to get it done.

I know there are mounting differences between 1984-1985 and 1986-1989, but I'm not entirely sure what they are or what they affect.
Seems like the body-to-frame height might have changed between 1985 and 1986, and therefore the brackets changed.
My 1987 seems to have all traces of original bumpers front and rear removed. No original brackets remain, so I can't even tell where they used to mount.
I know I will have to do some grinding, drilling or other fab work, but I'm not sure if I can get away with just modifying the new brackets, or if I'd have to put a hole in my truck to do it.
I also don't know what bracket type I should buy. One for the 1987 or one for the 1985 style. I would assume 1987 since my new bumper is from a 1988. Those should just match up.
How does the valance mount to the truck? Does it hang off of the bumper, or is attached to a bracket of its own?
Truck with the Smitty.
Driver side mounts. 3 points. Two big bolts and one you can almost see near the S in Smitty on the cap. Slightly rusted body bolt.
Passenger side mounts.
Under side.
I think I need:
-Bumper (got)
-Bumper face brackets 2x (86-89 type?)
-Plastic bumper end caps
-Top filler panel between grill and top of bumper
-Lower valance
-All bolts and screws
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :keyboard:
Doing some eBay creeping, it looks like the valance attaches to the very far ends of the plastic caps and on the bottom of the two bumper brackets?
