looking to uprgrade/fix '13 SR5 sound system

I have a 1 year old SR5 with the upgrade package and I'd like to get better audio quality out of it. By that I mean getting A) more bass, B) better sound quality, and C) less rattling.

I've noticed that there is a slight rattle in the dash (at least I think it's the dash...) that seems to be coming from the vents. When I play music and it hits certain notes you definitely hear rattling. I was told in another thread that some of this is due to the door panels of the T4R, but I don't know if there are loose vents or something? This is a mint condition T4R that I purchased new, so that doesn't seem like something I should expect from a vehicle in this price range... or am I out to lunch here?

My question is basically two fold: Should I go about fixing any rattling first (if there is anything I can do about it)? Also how should I go about fixing this?
Secondly, what would you recommend for a sound system? I am looking to spend 1-2 grand preferably, and would be having this done professionally.

Howdy brother steamfitter/pipefitter!... Small world; local 475 out of NJ (Building trades journeyman, "refrig division")!

If that rattle is unbearable then it should be taken care of right away. Start by isolating it: turn on the stereo, tap the dash; whatever you need to do to get it rattling. If you need to drive it to replicate the sound, grab a friend to ride shotgun and help you locate this annoyance. A great deal of the dash trim panels will come apart fairly easy, but you'll need to "dig" until...

As far as the audio system, there are a few things that you can do (w/o spending any $$) to greatly improve the sound quality... here's a link that explains a few things that can be done: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/171794-party-mode-tweak-non-jbl.html

I'm still using the stock 'head unit' but system is modified! I'm also using a subwoofer system to give a genuine "out-of-body" experience! lol Here's a link to that install: Thanks Gurus, for all your "Low-end" help!!

Okay Steamfitter,

And please let us know what you decided to do with your audio system, and what was rattling in the dashboard; many here are experiencing the very same problem(s) as you've described!
