Okay, so "electonic" QDII has been out since 2005. That's 6 model years now. Like I said, nothing new.

I meant another guy. That's not the video (or videos) I was talking about. There was a guy who posted something similar on a Jeep forum, but his clips got deleted. I think he was talking about suing Chrysler at the time and his videos got deleted because the forum didn't want to be liable or part of the lawsuit.

Since we're in the 5th gen forum, i thought that we're comparing the 5th gen's 4wd system vs. QDII. If such, then that thread of yours is useless since 4th gens did not come with off-road A-TRAC (except 2009 Trail Ed) and rear locker.
I'm not comparing anything. I posted a link to that thread to show you that the Commander had "electronic locking" QDII for a long time now. The fact that they are discussing a 4Runner is only a bonus. It's and old thread, so there wasn't a 5th gen 4Runner out at the time.

As for the electronic QDII, i stand corrected...but that still does not change that the 2011 QDII is seemingly decontented. I will take the 5th gen's Trail Ed. 4wd system over any QDII anyday of the week.
BTW, Jed, do you have much off-roading experience? Just wondering.

BTW, what has been "decontented" on the new QDII? Are you referring to the lack of front locking? If so, I don't think you ever even heard about that until I mention it about 10 minutes ago. And I'm not even sure how true it is. Point is, you seem to be trying to come across as some sort of Jeep 4wd sytsem expert, but I think you know less than me about the new QDII system and exactly what has been changed.
And what exactly do you want to know about my offroad experiences? Have I ever run offroad? Sure. Do I do it every day? Of course not. I'm a lot older than you and I've had plenty of time in my life to offroad. I've owned dedicated trail rigs over the years and don't find much value in using a street-oriented vehicle like the 4Runner to do more than mild offroading.
My next project will be an International Scout II that will be built for offroading. And I won't even have to worry about scratching the paint! LOL
Did you read Motor Trend's recent 4Runner/Grand Cherokee comparo? They compared the V6 version of the Grand Cherokee to the 4Runner Trail. They even handicapped the Jeep by putting it in Limited Trim, complete with the 20 inch wheels and low profile tires. Yet it still won the comparison test and seemingly did just as good offroad. And that particular Jeep didn't even have QDII, but the lesser QTII system instead! So even without the top-dog 4wd system and the stupidly big wheels and low profile tires, the still compared it with the 4Runner Trail!
I'd like to see a true offroad comparison test, but only this time make the Grand Cherokee the top-of-the-line version, meaning V8 engine, 18-inch wheels/tires, and of course QDII. Now that would be a good article!

I got that issue and enjoyed the comparisons of the V8 and V6 GCs to the Land Rover and 4Runner. I am in the market for a new SUV and was really interested to read their thoughts on the 2011 GC versus the 4Runner. I wish they had used a Limited 4Runner or even an SR5 to compete against the V6 GC in the test. For my requirements, I'd go with the GC over the Trail for the exact reasons they gave 1st place to the GC. I just don't need the extra off road capabilities (although they'd be fun to have).
I do love the look of the new GC -- inside and out. I think it's the best looking SUV in my price range. Having once owned a Jeep many years ago, I am a bit worried about long term reliability. A brand new V6 is also a worry.

FYI.... the A- TRAC is standard on all 5th Gen 4x4 4Runners and yes have the overhead switch. What makes you think it's only on the TE's or different on the TE's?

Ok, I will tell you my story. My past includes owning a GMC Jimmy and a Chevy Blazer both started conking out on me and costing me big bucks. My business partner had a 1993 4R and I was in awe of it. In 98 bought my first 4R Limited and it ran like a charm. Had a couple of wrecks in it but here it is almost 2011 and my 12 year old 4R finally needed a new rear axle at 160,000 miles. I decided it was time to buy a new 2011 4R Limited and I could not be more satisfied. Great price and piece of mind knowing that I have a good product. it has all the bells and whistles and it has taken me a while to get used to the increase in size but it is very roomy and comfortable. :cheers::bash:

old thread, but interesting regardless. so did you buy a JGC? my wife almost pulled the trigger to buy a JGC LTD. i have to admit it is the most aesthetically pleasing suv on the market, exterior & interior. but to my surprise, she was actually listening to me despite the new car fever she caught. she said, let's buy the LTD that comes with the Toyota emblem because i want to drive with the highest probability of not getting towed to a shop.

Before anyone decides to buy a new jeep please do a search on their new Pentastar engine. Seems they are having a major problem with the heads on the Pentastar 3.7.
How do I know this you may ask? I bought one which I ended up trading for my 4Runner because of this engine, after mine developed the problem.
