Hey forumites! It seems like there have been lot of new threads and posts over the past couple weeks and it seems like this forum is growing exponentially!!! Every time I log on, there's quite a few new threads and posts. Anyways, just wanted to make that comment and that this forum is awesome. :D

I agree, but I'm kind of tired of having 2 out of every 3 new thread in the "perfomance" section be about what tires to buy or better yet will this tire fit my setup. Not complaining, just something I've noticed for quite a while.

Yeah, but how many "active"members. The number of members on just about any forum is pretty much meaningless when the majority of them don't post, or have never posted.
 
General Discussion has been quite active. Normally, when I check-in in the evening, it rarely reaches all the way to the bottom with new posts. It's now been spilling over to the second page.

There have been a few resurrected threads as of late though, but at least it's a very active forum without BS threads, flaming and trolls. I'm not complaining.

As with any forum, not all members are active at any point in time. Folks have to live their lives, and being on a forum may not be something they can do frequently. But because we're constantly banning and deleting spammers, the 15,000 number is a good indicator of the number of legitimate members.

In any case, the most important point is that we have an online community made up of lots of good people who willingly share their knowledge, ideas, and experiences with others.

I agree, you should see the CBR board I am on... man they are vicious on that thing! Flaming, trolls, and out right lack of netiquette is an EVERYDAY thing there! Crazy

But, as w/ all boards look at our target audience? Majority of the peeps on this forum are between 25 -40 ish (last time I checked that poll) and on the Honda CBR (bike) forum, majority are punk kids under 22.

I do come and go though, I think it has something to do w/ how this forum some how drains my wallet :p Go figure!
 
Agreed, it is a great forum. More people are becoming known to it because anything with the word "4runner" in it through google, will bring up pages from this forum. There is so much knowledge here, that any question imaginable can be answered with a little searching.

I am a little surprised it is so active. The 4Runner is near the end of this generations cycle and a bunch of new SUV's have come out & lots of new Toyota's. It's numbers of new vehicles sold each month has been dropping.

It just goes to show once you have a 4Runner, it seems to get into your blood, so to speak. Plus, it is a great site (I am somewhat biased, though).

Right, but my point is that the majority of registered forum members have little or no posts at all. A quick glance at the member list shows me that we have only about 80 members who have more than 500 posts. Hell, I'm relatively new here, and I'm almost at 500 posts right now!

The 15,000 milestone is great, but it doesn't seem to very meaninful when 10,000 of them never even make a post!
 
I think your observations are because some people pop in for advice on one specific problem, then after being informed, they bolt.

It means that 15,000 have signed up. Nothing more, nothing less.

Thanks for your opinion on why this stat isn't important to you, but having the majority with little or no posts is the same thing you will see on almost every message board with more than a few hundred members.

And that's exactly what I stated earlier in this thread. The same thing happens on almost every forum.

I did a quick search of members and came up with some interesting numbers:

Currently, only 6524 members have more than one post. That's less than half of the registered forum members.

8243 have one post or more.

4570 registered members have never posted at all.

What does this all mean? Not much... just an observation. Like most forums, the majority of posts are made by a group of active forum members.
 
Those numbers are surprising. Why do so many people sign up and then not post. Is it just a way to stack up how many members the forum has for bragging rights?

You guys are also forgetting the many people who just come to this forum to read up on stuff without ever registering. Unlike some forums out there, this forum allows you to read all the threads/posts without signing up. You can even do a search without signing up.

Then you have the members who do sign up, but don't have much to add. They just search for answers to their questions. Actually, i have a friend who has a 4runner...was browsing most of the time...then, after talking with him, he signed up. He has never posted but looks at the forum whenever he has a question.

So, do i care if only 1/2 or 1/3 are active?? Not really. I only care that this forum is informative and fair to facts/opinions stated.

BTW, there are plenty of spammers...i am deleting 25-50 spammers everyday...just imagine what our census would be if i did not! :D
 
Wow, that's a lot of spammers! Sounds like it must take a considerable amount of time to delete them all....
