Went to the stealership and surprisingly enough, Toyota will replace the ECM for free! (One time)

They just want you to pay 1 hour for installation, 1 hour for programming 2 keys. $120!

I bought my own transponder keys from ebay($7), the dealship wanted $300.

WTHH. what did they say about replacing the ECU for free?

they said because they cannot reprogram froma valet key, theyll have to replace the ecu as a one time courtesy and program the keys.

I guess they do it by vin.

But if its already been done, its $1000 for the ecu

Does this mean I can get a free ECU for my truck? and buy the fobs separately? This would be awesome!!

I wasn't going to spend ~$35 for a ECU AND fobs, but if it's just the fobs, I might spring for it.

I guess what i meant to say is was it just the dealership being nice to YOU? Or is it somewhere in paper for all of our 3rd gens?

I guess I am missing something here or it is not on my 2001 SR4. What does the ECU have to do with the keys? My keys do not have any security chip built into them. I don't know about the fobs but if I lost everything but the valet key i would be fully functional. My valet key works fine on everything but the glove box

It was a "campaign" that they are honoring.

Fobs are for the VIP alarm module
