A 2' long 3/8" inch extension and a ratchet works like a charm.

Just wanted to chime in for those coming here from Google that this absolutely worked for my '04 4Runner. I picked up a 20" 3/8" inch extension from Orchard Supply and it worked perfectly :thumb3:

You can. I used one before i realized where the stock one was located.

Is the square end of a 3/8" extension the perfect fit?

My 4runner came without a spare or crank tool. I tested the lowering mechanism with a big flathead screwdriver and am looking for a tool long enough to reach through the bumper. Thanks!
