Loud click after I put the 4runner in park and turn it off.

I am not sure if it happens every time, but, I've definitely it noticed more than once for sure. A pretty loud click, sounds like it's in the transmission possibly? I'll put in park and turn the rig off and it'll be delayed like a 2 to 4 seconds. Anyway, there are no other symptoms/issues but I'm curious as to what this might be. My first thought was that it could be the AWD system engaging or disengaging? I'm not mechanically inclined so give me your best guess.

Everything seems to be working just fine but I'd like to know what it is, especially since I didn't notice it until recently (last month or three).

Probably the steering wheel locking pin engaging…Try this…shut car off, then open the door. Do you hear the same sound? If so that's it. If not...

Sounds to me like the parking pawl engaging in the transmission. The pawl locks the tranny so the wheels won't turn while in Park. This will be especially true if you put the vehicle in Park on a hill and then release the brake. The truck will roll until the pawl engages fully. Totally normal, BTW.

What are your settings on the automatic door locks. Even though I have turned off the auto function I still here the relay click when I put it in gear and in park, even though nothing happens. :noidea:
