Low compression help... need advice or suggestions

Hello,

2000 4Runner, 2WD, 4 Cylinder, 3RZFE (Location, Los Angeles, CA)

About 3-4 months ago my CEL came on but I personally did not notice any loss of power when it occured and the CEL came off on its own a week later.

Recently the CEL came back and has been giving me rough idles and roughness when I am taking my foot off the brake and about to push the acceleration.

I have already changed the spark plugs and ignition coils. So yesterday I did a compression check:

1 Cylinder: 150PSI
2 Cylinder: 120PSI
3 Cylinder: 60PSI
4 Cylinder: 60PSI

I suppose my next task is to a valve job, but a mechanic told me that if I overheated my engine already then doing a valve job wont be of any use and that I am better off swapping the engine out.

Now I have a family mechanize that said he can do the valve job for 700. But if I do need an engine swap, is the 2.7 engine my only option? I mean the 2.7 is cool but I don't think if has enough power to drive around Los Angeles lol.

I am open to suggestions, theories and advice.

Thanks,

What makes you think you overheated it? You mentioned the CEL but how was the temp gauge? Did you scan it to see what codes you get for the CEL?

I read somewhere that the temperature gauge on the driver side might not always be accurate. Even though it shows normal temps, the engine itself might be overheating.

The codes I got there, P0300 and P0304.

Thanks,

Hello,

Replaced all the spark coils, (strangely my car has 4 direct coil ignitions, when toyota says that my vin should have a two coil pack) so no wires need to be replaced. Checked everything else, changed the tranny oil twice (once at 80k and again at 135k). Oil changes every 3-4k.

Thanks,

I think P0300 and P0304 are misfire codes. Someone else on here I'm sure could confirm. Before you start throwing a ton of money at it I would get a 2nd opinion on what's actually wrong.

my 99 that i bought for 1400 bucks had this issue it wasnt getting any compression on some of the cyls not sure which ones but it run like crap had hardly no hp and missed like crazy so i put it in the shop and they said it had stuck valves and they could rebuild it but it would been to thin on the metal so i bought a refab head off ebay for like $250 or something and had them install it its been running like a champ every since its a dang good truck for haveinf 302k miles on it.

I dout it would be your motor cause if i was it would had to over heat alot and then it would had clappsed the pistion rings which if this happened u wouldnt be able to drive it. My 89 pu i had over heated it and it killed the motor and would not run after words.
