Low pro expedition rack that doesn't rust

Need something that isn't much higher than the stock rack to fit in parking garages.

Also needs to be pretty rust-resistant, because everything rusts around here. And the few racks that I've seen mounted look like ass from all the mag chloride and gravel sandblasting.

Full length is preferred.

The utility rack from Bajarack is flat and low. I've never had an issue with parking garages even with my LED bar mounted on top. Although, I'm having some serious rust issues, but I've heard their QC is much better now.

You'll also want to check Equipt. You can't go wrong with full length, low, and aluminum.
 
Maybe not the optimum or desired look, but there's always something like Line-X when the rack is new to keep the badness away...
 
I am also in the market for an aluminum flat utility rack. The two that I'm currently looking at are the Eezi-Awn K9 rack and the LabRak full rack. The Eezi Awn is a pretty well known product and the LabRak looks like a similar take on the full rack. The things I like about the LabRak are that the cross members are removable for reconfiguration of the rack. This would be good to take out the first 2 or 3 to have full sunroof and put them back in before a longer trip. The LabRak is also (EO)2 Snaptop compatible and I can see some interesting fabs with their backplates to build custom holding accessories with zero tiedowns necessary. I am waiting on someone to install a LabRak to see if the perpendicular (Eezi-Awn is parallel) cross slats are noisy.

I have looked at the Rhino Rack Pioneer SX platform but it is not a full rack.

I have also considered the Gobi and Baja UT mesh but the extruded aluminum of the others is swaying me. Tough decision when you are dropping $1000+
 
I just installed a low profile rack from Equipt | Roof Top Tents, Expedition Roof Racks, Dual Battery Systems, Portable Fridges

I got their full length 2.2m K9 rack with the lowest 40mm feet. You can choose 3 different length feet on there since they make accessories like a table you can store under the rack.

I really like how it turned out. It is made out of all aluminum and it seems like a well built product. The K9 has 10 feet and 5 cross bars. It distributes the loaded weight really nice across the entire rack. I sold My Gobi rack and got this.

Its on a 4th gen, but you can install it on a 5th gen too.

I would not buy a baja rack, I have seen powder coating issues with baja rack and the construction material looks very thin to me.

Baja Rack Utility Rack

I need a low rack to fit under the trees on my driveway. I have a Baja Rack Utility Rack on order. Due for delivery within 2&1/2 months, by the end of March. Cross bars at about 4" on center, not the expanded metal floor. No sunroof opening and they are building a special order for me without the shark fin antennae cut-out loop. I'll remove the useless Sirus xM fin if I have to.

If the powder coating looks thin I'll paint it with a couple of coats of Rustoleum, or Line-X as suggested above. Two weeks ago I installed my Domello Rock Sliders after painting the bare steel with 6 coats of brushed on primer and black and sprayed on grey Rustoleum. So far it's holding up well and I can touch it up with paints I can buy off the shelf.

[MENTION=46138]chmura[/MENTION] how does this bad boy mount? using the existing roof rack holes?, It looks like there is some channel running down the gutter and the rack is mounted to that otherwise that is a lot of holes to drill into ones roof...
 
Sounds like you're looking for an Eezi-Awn K9 rack. I had a Gobi for years and sold it for the K9 rack. Best decision i've made so far. Here's my rig on the right with the 2.2m K9 rack from Equipt Expedition Outfitters and the Gobi rack on [MENTION=124732]LawnDart[/MENTION]'s on the left.

Yes the K9 rails mount to the existing mounting holes of the 4runner. The K9 rails just follow the gutter line of the 4runner. If I were to take off the rack you would barely notice there were any rails installed in the gutter channel of the 4runner.

Just to make things clear. The 4runner K9 racks ship with 65mm feet. The rack in the picture of the 5th gen above me sits little higher than mine. I used K9's 40mm feet to hug the roof alittle more to get a low profile look.

Why do you like the K9 better than Gobi? I have it narrowed down between those two. Does LAWNDART have any complaints with his Gobi? Thanks.
 
The Gobi will rust from the inside out. It started dripping rust onto my truck. It drips out of the holes where it is pre-wired. I like the K9 because it is flat and it was a better solution for mounting a RTT. I also like the slots on the K9 so you can mount lights and accessories very easily. Plus the platform of the K9 is a full 50" whereas the Gobi is around 43".

One of the items that we are going to tackle while I am there will be tweaking the fairing at the front to decrease wind noise. From what Shane has told me, the wind noise won't be any louder than other racks on the market.

You going to cover your sun roof? Or are the cross bars removable in that area?
