Lower control arm bushings

I wonder if you have to reuse the outer metal sleeve for the factory bushings for the lowers. If not, then I am interested.
 
I have some white line poly bushings in the mail right now. They come with the lower control arm metal sleeve. I have a feeling that with those you might have to reuse the factory one which would be horrible trying to get off of the original bushings. I don't know this for a fact, so you may want to check with the company that makes them, or maybe someone else will chime in.
 
Here's what I heard ...

Poly will likely squeak within a year.

There are no benefits of poly over factory OEM bushings besides price.

The OEM ones don't make noise for at least 10+ years of use.
 
I don't mind a healthy poly squeak. :)

That is just my onion though. If it naturally going to/supposed to, I'm ok with it.

In my experience on some of my past vehicles, and from everything I have read about poly vs rubber is that poly generally will last the life of the vehicle under normal use.

Most poly blends aren't affected or don't react like rubber does when coming into contact with engine and other fluids. Poly holds up where rubber breaks down faster when exposed to other fluids.

When it comes to 4runner LCA bushings, I wont ague with the fact that swapping out the whole lower arm for new OEM bushings is the best and esiest way to go. They last a long time. Mine made it 150k and many people's have lasted even longer.

I chose poly, just to have bushings I wouldn't have to worry about for a long time.

AZ heat tends to eat rubber up very fast.
 
I had energy bushings in my g35 for 2 years before I sold it and they never squeaked. I very much enjoyed them and now my whole front end on my 4runner is poly and I still enjoy it. I have whiteline bushings now and you do not need to reuse the metal sleeve from the old bushings. I used the factory bottle jack to press out the old bushings and then hammered in the new ones, very simple install.
 
Was the install of your Whiteline bushings pretty straight forward?

Did they come with the metal sleeve?

Are you happy with the end result?
 
i also have the whiteline bushings, to my knowledge they are the only manufacture for polly bushings for our trucks. they are great, and as long as you lube them up with some silglyde or like lube they will be fine. they come with the metal sleeve both inner and outer, and are fairly easy to install, the removal of the old bushing is the hard part.

imo only use either whiteline or OEM bushings, everything else is junk and inferior. the whiteline will be easier to install from my understanding as well

Having done this install within the past few months, this statement is spot on.
 
I'm using Whiteline bushings they seem to be of good quality... Being that the inner metal sleeve is free to rotate and they use grease it allows for smoother articulation... Although I agree you can't go wrong with OEM Toyota bushings
