LRS23S Build Thread-Eagle Eye Headlight mod/fix

So I pulled the OEM headlights from the runner and put some new lights in that I got off the internet last month. I started with these and it was just under 300.00 for the headlights, corners and LED tail lights

I knew that there was going to have to be some modifications done to the new lights due to the lights shooting everywhere from what other users have said about them. Also I read that there has been a lot of issues with the lights moving out of adjustment. I first rigged the lights and headed to the mountains for a play day......sure enough the lights moved out of adjustment and the retaining clips on the top of the lights cracked. I was in some super cold weather and the road conditions I don't think helped.

Light Mod:
The reason I figured I would do this is because the OEM headlight cone was not capped like this reflector is. I did take the runner out and test the lights one with the cone cut and one that was not and there is a noticeable difference in the beam. There was a HUGE difference when the high beams were turned on.

Adjustment Fix:
I decided that I would do a full tear down of the lights and see if I could get them to hold and adjustment. I was able to find some extra nuts, washers and lock washer for both sides of the light that once aimed correctly I would be able to tighten them on both sides with some thread lock. I am very happy with the turn out. I also cannibalized the hardware off of the OEM headlight basket and used them on the new housing.

If that's the low beam,pattern looks horrible,it's like a combination of the low and high beam on at the same time. The mod is good for you,but you're going to annoy/blind anyone driving in front of you.

My OEM headlights are capped at the nose,so are most H4 (and even reflector based HID) headlights. It's designed that way to shield stray light,what you've done is un-shield it.

The lowbeam should look similar to my attached picture,a straight cutoff with a flare to the right (to illuminate street signs etc.)

I can take a photo of the lights that came stock on the 4runner I have, they are Toyota lights with the same style of nose just not reflective they are like a matte grey.....thanks for the comment once I have the lights adjusted I will get another photo up of them

96-98 have a open cap because the glass disperses the beam, whereas the 99-02 the cap is sealed because the headlight bucket is what shapes the beam. These aftermarket ones have a clear glass lens line 99-02 OEM lights, so that part should have stayed capped.

thanks for the explanation of for the difference in the glass. I guess I'll have to go all in and just do a angel eye conversion if there is an issue with blinding other drivers. I will take out the runner tonight with some friends and see if there is an issue. Like I said im not pissed about it. guess I will need to asked any and all questions so im not screwing anything else up lol
