lumbar support 'crunching'

yep, mine does.. my lumbar support is also not holding my weight, and gives quite a bit.

I am pretty sure that if I didn't have the problem I wouldn't be posting here..

Well it is 'giving a bit' or is it making loud noises (creaking/popping)? The ones, like mine, makes (made) a lot of noise when it would fail. If it is giving but being silent that is going to be a different issue, and might need its own TSB or simple repair.

oh no, it is not silently giving in. taht's exactly why I am looking at this TSB. I'll be going to the dealer on Friday, and see what I can do.

The problem with this issue is that sometimes I am unable to replicate it. and that part makes absolutely no sense to me.

Which BC stealer? Did they give you the Canadian TSB?

So on Monday I made an appointment at my local stealer, for regular servicing and the Lumbar TSB. I called today to confirm that they had ordered the parts, so I wouldn't have to make two trips. My SA first said that I'd have to have the technician look at it first, to make sure it was under warranty (Umm, its a '10, so yes) and to diagnose it. When I mentioned the TSB, she had zero idea what I was talking about. 4 phone calls back and forth throughout the day, and she finally figured it out. Parts ordered. I must say, I was extremely impressed that she kept looking into it. I totally expected her not bother and to fall back onto the "We have to see first" excuse.

Fingers crossed for next Friday !!

Success!!!

Originally when the TSB # came out I called my local dealership, not the same one I purchased from, and explained the lumbar issue and mentioned the TSB. The service manager said they would have to replicate the issue to replace the neccesary parts and in addition that my '10 TE was not covered by the TSB number I had referenced. Knowing that my case was not too extreme and I only felt it after my daily 200 mile road trips, I was not to confident to take it in only them have them tell me they could not replicate the popping.

When the TSB text came out and I saw that my VIN was covered I became a little more confident as well as pissed with a certain service manager. This week as my odometer rolled past 34k I became a little more motivated to get this fixed while it was still gratis. So I drive over to the the aforementioned dealership and explain the issue and hand them the TSB. They tell me to wait an hour until the tech can take a look and try to replicate the issue. Hour later I get called in and told the tech could not feel the popping even after driving around the block a few times.

The manager have me the opportunity to drive the tech around and "show" him the issue. I was not really sure what this was going to accomplish, but then I thought what the hell. The tech was pretty cool and I explained the issue again and that I was trying to get this done while I was still under warranty. When we pulled back into the dealership he got back into the drivr seat and said "Now I feel what you are talking about, let's get those parts ordered." Not sure if he felt it or not but whatever... Appointment on Saturday!

Austin area people with the same issue pm me and I'll let you in on the dealership.

Over the weekend I took my '10 TE into the dealership to get the lumbar issue fixed. It took them the better part of the day. When I picked it up they had forgotten to connect all of the wires for the power seat but popping was gone at least for the moment. Double checked to make sure the parts were the correct ones and off I went. See below for part numbers corresponding to the TSB previously posted in this thread. Sorry I can't get the image to be vertical...

Just an FYI. I had my lumbar support fixed per the TSB yesterday. It was the first one the tech had done so he wanted to take his time. I was fine with that. Should be an hour job but he took 2.5. All I know is the new part was a spring. That's what they said at least.

It's like a new seat. The lumber doesn't move at all and feels much more substantial now. I am happy. Will report back if anything changes, but for now I consider this issue solved.

Does anybody has a link to the Canadian TSB, just in case my dealership will play dumb on me?

Well, that was fast! Local dealer had the truck for 2.5 hours (including wash time too.)

Service MGR said that the "part" was "like the whole seat back with everything installed on it." It does feel a little different, but NO POPPING!!!!

I never saw the Canadian TSB, but my invoice states "TSB Applies....Warranty"

Well all done ... haven't had a ot of time to drive it but it does feel different ... i don't think the lumbar has as much span as it used to.... and yea there is a whole lot of parts that come out .. like the whole back of the seat frame ..

crossing my fingers ..

How different - worse of better? It's crunching just a little bit on my T4R, maybe it's better off with what it is now?

went on 200 km round trip yesterday afternoon and all seems good ... no crunching or popping ... thank you Toyota ... seems the fix has worked ... will keep you posted if something changes ...

had mine replaced today. parts guy confirmed 71640-35060 is an entirely new seatback frame; lumbar guts and all.

only driven it a short distance but it feels great so far. way more solid and substantial.

Took my mag gray '10 sr5 in on Thursday for the TSB to be carried out. They kept it all day even gave me a loaner spacious corolla (sarcasm). They said new part was used and put in by third party seat guy as they don't do seat work. Sound is still there feels firmer and solid, but still crunching.
