lumbar support 'crunching'

Took my mag gray '10 sr5 in on Thursday for the TSB to be carried out. They kept it all day even gave me a loaner spacious corolla (sarcasm). They said new part was used and put in by third party seat guy as they don't do seat work. Sound is still there feels firmer and solid, but still crunching.

And you didn't tell them that you were entitled to a NEW part???

My dealer took under 2 hours to do it themselves. No crunching.

Sorry let me clarify. What I meant was that the new part called out in the TSB was used for the installation. On top of it my truck reeks of WD40. I'm actually doubting they used the new part called out in TSB

fyi, i was at the dealership yesterday with my '10 sr5 and they did find the technote and ordered the part. they gave me the same part number 171640-35060, although they thought it was just basically a spring. we shall see, cant wait to see how it works. been driving me nuts.

thanks all!

Well, that was fast! Local dealer had the truck for 2.5 hours (including wash time too.)

Service MGR said that the "part" was "like the whole seat back with everything installed on it." It does feel a little different, but NO POPPING!!!!

I never saw the Canadian TSB, but my invoice states "TSB Applies....Warranty"
Finally had the chance to bring it in the yesterday, the "new lumbar part" is on back-order from California? Notes on invoice indicated TSB (but no number provided). Will have to wait for the b/o.

On another note, have you or anybody noticed (cloth seating on mine) that the side of the drivers seat, just above the power buttons, "folded" .... i.e., a crease has formed and started to wear out. The dealer ordered a new seat cover which will be installed when the lumbar part comes in.

I can vouch that its back ordered in Cali. They originally ordered the wrong part..service manager said they ordered one for a non-powered seat. Took over two weeks for the correct one, but the part supposedly came in yesterday and am now waiting for a loaner to set an appointment. I'll report back once its installed.

I have my appt in a week and a half. they didn't mention anything about not getting the part. We'll see.

Hey Swansong, I'm going to be in Chilliwack for my parents' retirement, what dealership did you take your 4R to? I'm going to make an appointment to get mine fixed while I'm down there. Thanks in advance

I just got back from the dealership (Clearwater Toyota). I told them I had the crunchy seat problem, and mentioned this thread. They found the TSB and checked the seat.

They agreed to fix it however, the part is on back order and should have it in a week.

The P/N for the Lumbar is 71640-35060 (Spring Assy, FR S)

Yeah, I have been keeping an eye on this and I'm not impressed. Looks like someone ironed a crease into the material and the material itself is starting to pill and wear. I'll have it looked at during the next service I suppose. Glad to see your dealer did something about it.

The dealer has ordered my parts. just waiting for them to come in.

Same here, my "guy" at toyota calls me and says geez your weren BSing about your seat popping last year and a TSB being issued (I sent him a picture of it). Parts ordered will update.

For those of you that had the dealer replace the seat parts in the TSB, did the dealer do a good job of putting everything back together? My seat is definitely popping, but I'm a little worried about letting the dealer take the leater off my seat and not be able to get back on correctly. At this point I'm wondering what's worse, a popping seat or screwed up leater caused by someone at the dealer.

my dealer did and awesome job , the seat is perfect you would never know it has been messed with .. and the lumbar has been rock solid (like it is supposed to be )..

2 week wait for b/o

Woohoo. Back order arrived and scheduled for replacement tomorrow. Will test it out on my 1000km trip and update.
Fingers crossed that all goes well.

My drivers seat lumbar support was starting to 'give' and had a little bit of a play in it. I took it to New Holland Toyota here in New Holland, PA and they said that they have ordered the part but have no idea when it might come in. Anyone else in the YORK, LANCASTER, HARRISBURG area get their seat fixed? If so, what dealer did you take it to? Is this stuff about not knowing when the part will be in true? Do let me know.

mine is all jacked up. I'll swing by the York dealer and see

Dropped mine off today. Gave me a loner car and I picked a Dodge Challenger. Fun for the time being.

I called my dealership, told him ahead of time the seat was making cracking noises and that my curiosity made me look up online if it was normal. Then I told him about the TSB that I came across and he checked it.
He said that even with a TSB, they have to check and verify it before they can swap out the part and for some reason they had to send it to another shop to deal with the fabric ??? either way they've been good to me so far so hopefully everything will come out good.

My cousin's 4th gen had this problem and over time, it wore through the fabric and went to the cushion. Because of this, I stopped sliding in my seat and climbing up and onto it.

Won't fix it!

I went to Power Toyota Irvine and they're telling me that they can't replicate the problem so I cant have it fixed. I even provided them the TSB and everything (since they weren't aware of it). I then proceeded to calle Toyota care and they told me to go to another dealership to try and diagnose the problem otherwise, I can't get it fixed.
