2011 SR5 with 3750 miles and I've had this problem since 1k miles. I have been to 2 different dealerships in my area and both say they want to take the seat apart, lube the mechanism in the lumbar and see if that fixes it.
I don't want them to do this as I could see them causing another problem and this not fixing the crunching problem. I asked them if they would order a new seat back and told them I know others that have had this issue, and that resolved the problem but they said tech support told them to take it apart and if I was still unhappy then, maybe they could order a new seat.
That's the best they will do for me. I have my 3rd appointment for this issue on Monday. I will update here with results.

Shouldnt matter whether set to FULL, HALF or not at all. It shouldnt be happening ever.

I noticed that you are in Santa Cruz and you got them to replace your seat. I am in Monterey and have been to the Toyota dealership here and in Salinas and they won't replace it. Where did they fix yours at? Maybe I can take it there and get this issue resolved.

I used Toyota of Santa Cruz off 41st Ave in Capitola. When I get home tomorrow I'll look in my paperwork and see if the Service guy I dealt with is listed on there and let you know his name.

Wow..I've experienced this same thing....extremely annoying. I inflated and deflated and it finally quit. I was about to take it to the dealership and have them fix the seat.

Currently at 4,000km (ish) and it's only getting worse. 2010 TE with cloth.
When it's time for the oil change I will get them to take a look at it. I need to order the Katzkin leather interior but I've just been too busy recently. I was planning to order it, and then look at the lumbar support myself when installing the new seat covers, however it sounds like the whole seat back needs to be replaced.

Dealer Service In Denial
I took mine to a dealer in the Seattle area where I purchased it, and they really didn't give it a serious look. The tech did not even drive it with me to get clarification. Drove out of the dealer and it started again within a half hour. So, if anyone else can share with me how they got their dealer to take a serious look, it would be much appreciated.

I posted before that I had brought it to 2 local dealerships that basically blew me off. One of them actually told me "it's just the lumbar, not like the whole seat it broken" my wife fricken enraged at that comment and filed a complaint to Toyota Corporate.
Anyway, I suggest you guys having problems with Toyota fixing your seat tell them that you know someone else, or others with the same problem and they had the back of the seat replaced entirely. It worked for me. Thanks again emsmatt! :banana:

Anyone that gets the new seat back, please report back if it STARTS up again. I would think it would do the same thing since most of us all have the same issue. I would think the a new seat will have the same parts and end up having the same issues. Please report back often once its replaced...then I will be able to decided whether to go to the dealer to replace or just have to live with it.:dammit:
Less than 12k on mine and it has started doing it. Reducing the lumbar does definitely reduce the squeaking, but it doesn't go away.
I'm very interested to hear if the new seatback people are having installed fixes the issue. I wonder if the new ones will just start squeaking after a few miles like the old ones did.
Has anyone opened the seat up to see what could be causing the issue? Any pictures?

I took mine to the dealer yesterday, and after 3 hours of waiting they didnt look at it. They mentioned no TSBs or official fixes beyond replacing the seatback. If the lumbar hasnt changed then I doubt this will fix it.
Im going to remove the seat cover to get a better look. Im halfway through a leather install, so maybe I can fix the lumber myself? I'll post pics of the lumbar.

Just left my dealer. They're calling Toyota on Monday. Ill keep everybody informed. FYI, there is no need for a test drive. This just frustrates the dealer and wastes time. The issue can be duplicated sitting still. Also if u have some1 put their hand on the seat back (aka the dealer) it is easily felt. Hopefully none of u has to deal w the run around anymore.

My understanding is that the full warranty on almost everything is up at 12,000miles. So, if you have the problem, I would report it before 12,000 miles and get a written reference. It took me 3 trips to 2 dealers, before one of them finally acknowledged it was a problem. So, I am going to have them replace mine before 12,000 miles. Like others posting, I am interested on the outcome of the fix and how long it lasts. So, please post monthly or every couple of thousand miles.
