Made a Lock Box for the 4runner (Pic Heavy)

I wanted something to store my weapons when I transported them to and from work (police officer), but I could not find anything in my price range.

My work vehicle has a truck vault, but they run anywhere between 1000 to 1800, so I decided to try to build one myself.

Keep in mind I missed wood shop while I was in High School, and never really worked with wood.

Here is how it went:

Prepared the interior and made measurements.

First panel cut

Side measurements taken and side panels lined up to be flush with the wheel wells

Top panel cut and installed

Drawer cut and installed

4runner carpet installed on top of the box

A little peak inside the drawer

Finally drawer hardware installed and ready for paint. Entire box is now bolted to the d-rings and is very solid.

Total cost was about $100 in wood and hardware. No problems or noises as of yet.

Did you have a specific item in mind or did standard lumber sizes determine drawer depth? My compressor is great but thick. I've also got a tool bag that'd drive dimensions a bit for me.

What is keeping robbers from just carrying the whole vault?? Is the bottom wood plank nailed down?

Otherwise, that is a good vault!

It is bolted to the D ring tie downs. If you look it is a bolt that is bolted to the body. I went to Lowes and purchased the same thread and size, but just a longer bolt. works out great and does not move at all.

I am putting foam in the box so I can transport my AR15 and other duty items safely.

The storage box is more for me to leave items in the car and not allow people to see them or take them.

The top and bottom is 1/2 inch thick oak board, the sides and front are 2x6's and the top lip is a cut down 2x4
