so it has been waaay too long but i finally got around to doing a few mods to the 4runner.
i have been wanting to paint the stock skid plate and d-ring that i picked up but i couldnt figure out wat color....then i finally decided to go with blue.
sorry for the crappy pics. i always decide to take pictures at the wprst times...plus some were takin from my iphone.

again...sorry for the crappy pictures.
i will take a few more during the day to see if you can see them any better. i have a lot more pictures to do a write up if anyone would like to see how i did it.

the funny thing is that im getting bilstiens all around in a month or so and my wife said she thinks a yellow skid and d-ring would look better and match the coilovers so i guess im gonna have to please the boss and fix it after we get the bilsteins lol

i know my build thread isnt as badass as some but let me know wat you think

Blue is definitely a different color choice for a d-ring, ha. I'd say go with something that stands out more (if you knew me, you'd understand, I love neon/vibrant colors that stick out), maybe try red or yellow like the wifey said.

I want to paint my skidplate black (I have the taco one on the front end of mine thats silver). Yellow would certainly stick out too! I like that idea as well. I also liked the calipers that one guy had painted red. Wasn't too crazy yet you could sorta see them through the wheel. Different, at least.

Looks great! The yellow might be nice! Blue and yellow is a great match and that's how I decided to get my budbuilts painted red. The red matches with the tail lights, the TRD sticker I have, and my red brakes.

And dont ever down your build. Your build is how you built it and want it.

Looks great man!

Thanks a lot guys! Hopefully within the next mOnt or so my build will get a lot more interesting. I'm so excited to get the blisteins it's not even funny.

So I took a few more pics on my iphone to see if tapatalk was worth the 2.99 lol

Where did you get that D-Ring? It's different from most I've seen.

Nice build! I really like the blue, it pops and the grill is sweet!

Thanks! I'm tryin to make it my own and not like anyone else's build. But I got the dring from harbor freight tools. It was only 9.99 so I couldn't say no

awesome build! Love seeing someone do exactly what they want and not what others tell them looks best.

What is the new suspension going to be exactly? 5100's all the way around? any new springs? adjusting the front?

From experience, just get the adjustable Coilovers from the get go. I ran a 3" spacer lift and just installed the COs and you will love them SO much more! I wish I would have just saved up a little longer and bought the Coilovers from the beginning.

But your rig looks good! Love that gutter guard. Did that on my Saab I had awhile back but haven't done the 4R yet. Looks better on darker cars IMO.

Welcome! :hello:

Yeah man definitely scope everything out when it comes to lifts. I wanted a lift so bad right when i got my 4R and i bought the Daystar 2.5/1.5 spacer lift. Dont get me wrong i absolutely love it but now i want to buy a Old Man Emu full 3" suspension lift. If i was you i would go ahead and get a little bit higher than what you think you want cause trust me when you lift it your automatically going to want higher (take my word for it) and dont go a cheap route like i did you will be much happier if you get a whole new suspension rather than a spacer lift.

Yea def not gonna get a spacer lift. I know I would grow out of that within a month or 2. I think the 5100's will be perfect for wat I'm looking for.

So me and my friend installed the 5100's today and they ride AMAZING!!!! I ended up going with the 1.75 notch and so glad I did. It is perfectly level now!
Took a bunch of pictures on my camera but only a couple with my phone.
Here is one from my phone and I'll have to get on the computer later to put the ones from my camera in here.
This was right after we installed the front and set it down.

btw i parked next to a stock 4th gen tonight and my 4runner looked like it was gonna jump up and eat that stock runner! haha and its funny cuz i have a baby lift but i love it! not only do i sit up higher and its almost perfectly level but the ride in general is 45274% better.

i sound like such a noob but ive never done work on a car or modded a vehicle so im just now realizing how addicting it is!
<a href="http://s803.photobucket.com/albums/yy320/mireland4390/T4R/?action=view&current=100_1440.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i803.photobucket.com/albums/yy320/mireland4390/T4R/100_1440.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

and finally...here is the ""result"
this is with the front 5100's in the front but not in the back. we started the front at 930am and got done with those around 1130am so we were on awesome time...then we got to the rear. both of the bolts on top were soooooooooo seized and the top half of the stock strut was spinning with the nut and we couldnt get a good enough grip(we tried everything!) to stop it from spinning. then finally we said F it and we cut it off! haha
we finished the rear around 4 and i am sore as hell today so thats proof we wrenched on those damn rears!
