MAF Sensor cleaning to improve gas mileage!

I cleaned the MAF sensor in my T4R 3 weeks ago. I also put a bottle of Seafoam in the gas tank. The MAF wasn't very dirty before cleaning, but it was shinier after spraying it a few times. I let the MAF sensor dry then installed it back in the truck. After running it the past couple of weeks it definitely runs smoother and the idle RPM's are lower - hard to tell exactly, but I'd guess it's not between 600 and 700 RPM's.

Just went to pep boys and autozone last night, both were at $6.99.

I sprayed and sprayed, full tank still reads lower than my liking, 340 so no change here. I spoke with an employee at auto zone who has a theory, run the tank till its empty empty and then use BP to fill it all the way up, mid grade. Who knows, might work, might not but either way it won't cost me any more than I'd need to anyway.

Oh also put a can of Sea Foam into a full tank as someone suggested. Nothing yet other than idle is at 700 RPMs. Didn't really take note of the idle RPM before the MAF sensor cleaning & the Sea Foam so can't say for sure whether it made a difference or not but I'm sure it didn't hurt.

1/24 UPDATE: Ran the truck till it showed 0 on the range then filled the tank with 89 OCTANE BP. New range says 324. Hand calc MPG for this one is 273.8/20.445 = 13.39 MPG

i asked a toyota service guy about this one time and he said not to worry about it. just fill it up when you're close to zero

i guess some things you just can't let bother ya

13MPG is horrible, are you doing city driving only? I have the same vehicle '08 and my comp says I get 22.9MPG and calc by hand shows 21.6MPG, I do 50/50 city/hwy.

Did you try changing out the sparks? I've seen some nasty looking sparks on cars that have been using poor quality gas.

I'm going to do this on my '06 V6 this weekend, but want to make sure I'm doing it correctly. I'm a little confused after watching that video on Vimeo, which is the procedure for an FJC, not a T4R (do they use the same MAF?). I read a comment from someone who said the guy in that video might actually be cleaning the temperature sensor, not the MAF sensor.

Can someone post a pic of the actual MAF sensor in an '06? (or '07 - '09 - should be the same I assume).

maf sensor cleaning

Here are a couple of pics from my '05 V8. From other pics I've seen, the '03 and probably the '04, too, have MAFs that are in a housing that is slimmer and more cylinderical and, to my eye, look easier to clean. My purpose in cleaning it was to solve <a href="http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?threadid=17181" target="_blank">this</a>, which it didn't do. I just sprayed cleaner in every hole in the housing. Didn't notice any improvements from the cleaning at around 20k miles, but I'm glad it's such an easy service to perform.

I just cleaned my MAF and now my VCS and check engine light is on. What do I need to do to reset that?
