MagnaFlow Prototype 5th Gen Cat-Back System

Dropped the 4Runner off at MagnaFlow headquarters today so they can fit and test their prototype system for our 5th Gen 4Runners on it. I should have it back by Friday so stay tuned!

I made a suggestion to them to have to exit at the rear right instead of the back factory location as an option.

Any other suggestions?

Now I am driving this for the next week :sobbing:. But hey, they are paying for it LOL

My wife laughed her ass off when she saw this.

The side exit will be nice once you put an after market rear bumper but the stock will still have the cut out. I know i smashed my tail pipe many a times in the stock location. Once the rear bumper gets put on (it's going to be a while) I think i am going to do a side exit too

Yeah, I don't think it will an issue with the Trail. But, we will see.

Picked up the truck an hour or so ago. The system sounds awesome. I have not had time to edit the sound comparission video yet, but hopefully I will get that up here tomorrow. Here are some pictures in the mean time.

They routed it out the side, but it is sitting a little low. I am going to notch out the plastic like Harper7 did and have them take it in a little tighter. But, for now it is ok.

So here is the prototype system from Magnaflow!

Very ,very nice!:thumb3:

I take it they are going to make it a bolt on.Is it bolt on from the y-pipe on the passenger side back ?Or actually from the front cats back.
There are actually 4 smaller cats on 5th Gens, being 2 on the exhaust manifolds themselves and 2 more welded on a foot or 2 aft of them.

And do you know which Magnaflow muffler they went with? I went with the 18 inch body 12256 and love the sound.

I just checked the price of those Magnaflow tips.:jaw drop:
It does look nice!

Yes, it is bolted on where the two manifolds join together. Gabe, the product development manager wasn't there when I picked it up. I will be getting all the details for you guys as soon as he gets back to me. I believe it is a 22'' model.

What diameter is the piping and the tip? On the site it at least used to say that it was going to have 3" piping with a 3.5" exit. Anyhow, it looks good and am also looking forward to the sound clips. The tip does look a little low in relation to the bumper, but it still looks pretty dang good.

Suppose its a side note, but does anyone know if you can replace the 4 cats with 2 larger ones? I mean legally, of course. It could be nice to clean that area up and not have that lovely little factory dent in the piping.

SOUND CLIPS! haha, i woke up early to check on it!

I am going to film some drive by shots in a bit. I might do some off road sound clips as well. I just have to find the motivation to go. Kind of had a late night out last night.

However it did give me a chance to hear someone else drive it. It sounds awesome. I just stood there and listened to the valet drive it away. It was nice.

I will have it up here today.

very cool. Can they powder coat the tip in black. would look much better on the trail edition.

I agree it would. They do make some "Black Edition" systems for other vehicles. I told them that it would be a good idea for the 4Runner as well.

I am surprised they have the system up on their site already! haha

I might paint mine black after I have them move it up a bit.

DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :guitar3:

Here you go guys. Tried to capture it the best I could. In person it is a lot less "Subaru-ish". At low speeds, like in parking lots, it has a nice grumble to it. Not a v8 grumble but pretty good for the 4.0L v6. Youtube also does a number on the sound quality I have found. Oh well. :)

You guys are welcome. I did go out to the local 4x4 spots but they were just packed with yahoos, it being Saturday and all. It wasn't a good time to do any filming out there. I have to make a few more videos, Baja Rack being the next, so stay tuned.

I feel that I went to small when i got mine, aka the 14" model. I will hopefully be going to a larger Magnaflow muffler in the near future, maybe the 18".
