Magnaflow tips easily getting dirty

Anyone in here have any idea why ? I'm thinking it's the fact that I run 87 octane, or either the combination of my K&N FIPK that's not CARB exempt and my Magnaflow cat back.

I'd also like to add I had a Tanabe for my Accord back in the day and it never was such a pain to keep it clean.

I know it's apples to oranges but still thought I'd throw it out there just in case.

I think it is just the nature of exhaust systems. My exhaust on my celica did the same. The tip would get black and the metal around the tip gets dirty. Just clean it periodically and it'll be fine. You could always use a polishing paste on it too.

If you are running an intake as well as an exhaust you are running a higher volumetric efficiency and thus running lean with out additional fuel. To combat this the ECU will adjust fuel to a more rich condition.

You're probably right on that, although I still tell myself I'm really not.

Time to go clean my tips (again).

I just sold my Valor tip since I've installed the TRD cat-back system. I had cleaned up the tip with soap/water + bug and tar remover and it looked nice. But decided to go over it with some Meguiar's Metal Restorer polish before I boxed it up. Man, it looks like a brand new tip! I couldn't believe how much black stuff came off with very little rubbing. Anyway, I'll be using it on my system to keep the tips clean. It came in a little tub, about $6 back when I bought it, but well worth it. I'd used it before to clean the calipers and levers on a 1950's Schwinn bike and they still look like new. Highly recommended.

I got the same setup with intake and exhaust and mine also gets dirty fast, so must be the combined setup?
