Maint Light Codes

I have a 2006 4Runner SR5 with the V-6 and approx 9950 miles, yesterday the Maint light began flashing at startup. It will flash 6 times after the truck is started and then go off. The truck seems to be running fine....no other lights, loss of power, or mileage so I'm guessing it's not a critical failure. I'm wondering if anyone has access to a list of codes to english descriptions for this light. I'm headed in for the 10k oil change etc. in about a week but I'd like to know what tripped the code anyway.

Thanks.

Your "MAINT" light is coming on because the truck thinks that you are due for an oil change. After awhile, it will stay on permanently until it is reset.

Resetting it is very, very easy and the instructions for how to do it have been posted on this forum and are also printed in your owner's guide.

I have an '05 SR5 and it does the same thing. That light comes on based upon the number of miles on the truck since it was last reset - and has nothing to do with the condition of your oil or anything like that.

The engine computer also looks at average engine running temp and average load and probley some other conditions also. To tell you when you need an oil change.

I figured that it was tripped on a mileage counter because it came on soild when I hit 5k miles. I just didn't remember it flashing last time and since it's only been ~4600 miles since the last service I didn't think it would be coming on already.

I'm still interested in the key to the codes if anyone has them, seems like it'd be a nice bit of gee whiz info to keep around.

From the Owners' Manual, page 153:
Engine Oil Replacement Reminder Light (for vehicles sold in U.S.A.)
This light acts as a reminder to replace the engine oil. This light will come on when the ignition key is turned to

As I understand it, the maint light is keyed to the odometer only. It is not related to actual engine oil condition, only miles since last reset.

Great info! I'd never heard of this. Purchased my 4R certified pre-owned and was never told about the MAINT light. I saw it flashing and thought, "I just changed your oil, what are you bitching about?"

Thanks for the help!

Maint light

Thanks for the post.

I had the Maint light come on this weekend.

I have a 2006 V6 Dark Grey 4 Runner with about 7,900 miles. I have had the oil changed twice.

Even after checking the oil levels twice, the light remains on.

Yeah, I was able to get it off.

Some of the instructions I read on here excluded the part regarding turn the key to the off position.

I figured it out.

Thanks.

I've learned a lot by reading these posts.
