Hello everyone. I'm relatively new to this forum but have quickly realized the abundance of knowledge and passion for the best mid size SUV on the planet!! So i would appreciate any kind of help.

Today my MAINT light came on. Mornings feels or sounds out out of place, so I'm not eager to rush it in to the shop for a diagnosis. However I do want to know what caused it to turn on. Does anyone know if there is a way to manually/DIY retrieve a code or explanation for the light turning on? I don't know if it makes a difference, but my rig is an 04 SR5 4x4 v8. Thanks

Or better yet.... the manual. I am laughing a bit at this. There is a big difference between the "MAINT" light and the Check Engine. One signals it has been X miles since it was reset and acts as a stupid reminder for the majority of American's who don't take care of cars and never change their oil, air filter, belts and fluids and can be reset easily (a procedure that is explained in the OWNERS manual); while the other signals that something is wrong with your car and you should have a mechanic to look at it.

I will let you figure out which is which.

Yeah, someone that has been on the forum for a while, I will make them search, but with only 4 posts, I felt I would give a break and help.

:-)

My grandpa always beat the "teach them to fish" methodology and it has always stuck with me..

As a result, I can be a wee bit of a hard a**.

Ok that make sense. The last vehicle I owned only had one "service" light. As long as I've owned my T4R I have done all the maintenance myself, therefore not knowing about the additional reminder light. Thanks for the wealth of information!

Another piece of information. The MAINT light comes on every 7500 miles. I change my oil every 5k, so my oil changes don't coincide with the MAINT light.

Well, I am in my mid 30's, and my grandfather passed away many years ago. You obviously missed my joke.

It wasn't a slight, more chuckling. The internet has made us individually stupid and collectively smart is all. Easier to ask than to self discover... that used to not be the case.

I understand that mentality completely, unfortunately this forum wouldn't be what it is today if everyone told each other "go fish for the answer yourself". No hard feelings; I was just expecting a little more help.

Help makes this forum great. My new to me 2006 main light came on and I did an "oh no" as my Chevy work car tells me to change oil. I looked in the manual and realized my syn oil from previous owner doesnt need replaced yet. So far I find this forum helpful with not many sarcastic replies to those who need help. That is the way I like it.

I have no idea of the 5th gen, as it may have a different procedure. Does your manual tell you? The MAINT reset procedure works and is described in the manual, so I would imagine the 5th gen manual will explain it.

Mine comes on every 5k. I believe you can have Toyota change the interval at which it will come one (5k, 7.5k, etc.)
