Making my whole INTERIOR BLACK ( Need a lot of advice )

Hey my 4runner Buddy's!

I'm Currently planning on dropping 500$-1,500$ on my interior of a 2002 Sport edition.

I want to do this:

1. Paint all the Plastic pieces Black.
2. Find High quality seat covers ( I would prefer something different than seat covers if possible )
3. Black Carpet
4. Black Seat Belts
5. Black Weathertech Mats
6. Sound deaden everything
7. Black leather console replacement.
8. Black Fabric on side doors
9. Black ceiling

I think I am already set on buying the Black Carpets from Stockinterriors.com : 96-02 Toyota 4Runner Carpet Complete Kit 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002

Has Anyone ever had experience with buying carpet from them? I'm not sure if if its worth paying an extra 100$ for their "better" carpet, or 100$ for the "Thicker" carpet. It would be a difference of 270$ all the way up to 520$ for getting the thicker and better quality carpet.

PLEASE HELP ME WITH THESE QUESTIONS:

If you have a Method, Product, Link, or Picture to answer any of these questions please Refer to it's NUMBER ABOVE. I'm asking you guys, cause you have so much knowledge, so please tell me the best quality and cheapest ways to do all of this. Thanks

If you are looking to do a "high end job" as you are saying, then yeah go for the extra mass backing. I think it's worth it. It does make the edges thick though when trying to re-install the trim pieces. Look and compare their ebay page to their actual website. With their website you can use a coupon code so search for one to save some money.

If I had the money, but when I do get the money, I am going to put in Katzkin leather seats. They aren't just covers but actual leather replacements that you remove the old fabric and put these on. You can customize them in a bunch of different ways. These are over $1000 for front and back.

Add Wet Oakley Seat Covers - I know you said you didn't want seat covers. I like the looks of the Wet Oakley's and you can customize them and get just the look you are wanting.

Replace carpet with new black carpet with mass backing from stockinteriors.com

Recover headline with black suede. I found a place that had a really reasonably priced black suede headliner. I can't find it now, but I have the link at home. I want to say you can get enough material to cover the headliner in one piece for $100-$120, but I can't remember for certain.

That's what my current plan is, who knows when it will actually happen.

I am slowly going green, not black. First step was the jade green color carpet with mass backing from stockinteriors.com. So far so good. Definitely endorse the mass backing.

I've done some of the trim with Krylon Fusion Hunter Green. That stuff is great. I did the white pipes in my outdoor pool filter installation with the same stuff (one of the cans I just used was left over from the pool!) and it has held up well to eight years of sun and storm.

I still haven't learned how to post links from my tablet, so if your willing to search craigslist go to poeblo's craigslist there is a nice black limited. I would buy it whole, part out what you don't need and keep just what you want.
I love black interiors. I will never forget that I once had a chance to buy that truck. Its just there are other things I need. My current interior is too nice as is, to mess with. Good luck. Post pics.

Zacattack's method is the easiest way. Someone else did an even better job using dye and heating all the vinyl parts to get them to sweat so that they absorbed the dye really well. That is alot more work, but is probably a much more robust method as you can't scrape or damage the color if the dye soaked in.

The carpet is your own decision; like the durk said, If you are looking for a high end job, then get the mass backing, if not, don't bother with the extra expense.

IMO, you should think about what you could do with the money and time you'd spend on this and decide if it's really worth it to not make your rig any better, just a different color. This will be alot of work, probably won't come out as well as you'd like, will probably lower the resale value, and won't make the thing run better. If after that you're still resolved to do it, then just do your research and do it. Other than the few people that have done this, none of us can really offer you much real advice, just our opinions.

You can get alot of other stuff for $1500, you could buy a good working motorcycle, a sweet vacation somewhere, lots of stuff. Looking through Zacattack's thread, he spent ridiculous money on that thing...

Totally not worth the time and money.

Why don't you post some pics of your current interior so we can see.

Also consider just waiting until you have enough money to buy a second car and make sure that one has a black interior.

That's what I did. My Lexus CT200h is Starfire Pearl (White) with a Black faux-Leather interior. My 4Runner is black with tan interior and I'm quite happy.

Not sure about the seat covers. I have never owned a set, and have read mixed reviews on them.

I don't quite understand what you mean by higher quality carpet. Are you talking about the ultra plush stuff? Because I didnt get that so I have no idea how that is. I got the normal carpet with mass backing and I think that it's perfect. I don't need it any plush-ier. I haven't been in a new 4Runner so I wouldn't be able to compare.

As other are saying, it is a lot of money and work. I really hate the color brown so I was pretty dead set on it. It won't be perfect over time and things can still get scratched. I still love how it looks though. I think if I were to do it again. I would get a full gray interior from a newer like an '01 or '02 (not the older years that had a like bluish gray color) and then put black carpet, black seats, and black inserts on the doors.

Im going on a mission for my church for 2 years down to mexico. And while im gone my dad will most likely look for a 2002 sport for me. When I get back I will deck it out. And I would defiantly buy like a 2015 4runner that already has black interior but thats like 35 grand haha. And this next vehicle I get will be for college so its nothing amazingly expensive for now haha. And I want to do some awesome mods to specifically because I grew up with 3 4runners my dad owned and I find the 2002 or basically a 3rd gen to be very amazing. And I may not even resell it. I may drive it til 400k miles haha
