Manual Transmission hard to shift after 1” body lift

Hello all, I just installed a 1” Toytec body lift. In the instructions and videos I watched I saw it noted that for an automatic transmission you may need to adjust the shifting linkage, but nothing for a manual.

Any advice? I’m a pretty noob YouTube mechanic who’s learning as they go.

FYI it only seems to be 2nd gear that’s an issue. Not hard to shift into per say. But has a much shorter throw than it used to and doesn’t quite seem “seared” into gear. Almost like it wants to pop out but it doesn’t.

Maybe it’s not a big deal and I’m just making it one but want to be sure.

I have a 5 speed and a toytec 1 inch body lift also. I do have a Hurst short throw shift though. Body lift shouldn't effect the shifting per say. The shift boot should have enough give. It could be coincidental, the symptoms you describe sounds could be syncro wear, providing clutch action is alright. Can try changing the gear lube with a fresh batch. Also the clutch cylinder and slave cylinder could be failing, but I swapped both mine and no change when I had your same symptoms.
2nd gear hard shift is a common syncro symptom, had one myself on another transmission. It also would pop out of gear from a dead stop if I did lazy quick shift into 1st, I'm thinking the gears were worn also. I just threw out the old 5speed and found a good one cheap and rebuilt it.
If the symptoms get progressively worse, time for a rebuild or swap out if you can find a good one.

The rubber boots on the Shifters are probably just sitting weird. Take the knobs off and pop out the trim piece and mess with the rubber around the shifter. Should be able to slide it down the shifter to compensate.

When I put a 1.5 inch body lift on I believe I had to cut the metal frame that holds the rubber boots around the shifters. Same location. 2nd gear. I imagine you are right near the limit with a 1 inch body lift.

On mine, I think I might have slotted the mounting holes, but it's been years. I do recall having to deal with that shifter plate before it was all wrapped up.
