map light mod for limiteds with running board lights

So I did this version of the map light mod. I noticed that when I hit unlock they come on but not as bright as it used to be. I click it and it instantly brightens up. So I'm not sure what is going on. I'm attaching photos of what I mean. Also I broke one of the little plastic parts we're attaching the wires too. Anyone know the part number of where I can get one online not to pay $5K to the dealership?

The part I broke

You may have to replace that assembly to get the part. It should have a part number. If you look at some of these part diagrams it is considered "interior trim" from what I can see. Best of luck

if tapping into the running board wires just check with volt meter before tapping

Sorry for not being clear. Yes I am following your tutorial and trying to tap into the running board wire but I'm not sure which one it is. I unfortunately don't have a vol meter. Thanks for you help Kevin.

the way i did it was just tapping into one with a test light to see what wire to use the taps on. i can go outside and look, give me about 15min


edit: my wires are wrapped like crazy so i dont have enough light to want to check. best bet is trial and error i guess

there are two wires in the part i pulled up. it will be one of the two wires

Did map light mod this weekend, now I have plenty light when door is open!
Taped into the wire from the dome light (IMHO it was easiest and closes to connect to); added the switch to the map light blank plastic cover, so just wanted to share:

I tapped just the A piller wire with a 3M in-line tap. Within the wire bundle is another bundle of three white wires. They are wide and bound side by side. The middle one is the wire you want to tap.

I just did this mod on my 04 Limited and tapped into the middle wire of the three white wires that run together like you said and it worked like a charm. Super easy mod!

So you just took the two wires from the light and spliced them to one and tapped it into the white wire in the A pillar?

Yes. That is what I did. You can't confuse which wires to tap into coming down the A pillar. You will have to cut some of the tape off of the bundle of wires. Then locate the 3 white wires all running together. Tap into the middle one.
