Map light modification?

Is there anyway to have the map lights come on like the dome lights when you open the doors automatically? Is this a simple modification? I know someone out here has done it. I was thinking about this yesterday when trying to program my Homelink that lost the programming all of a sudden after 5 years... :-(

That was quick! Seems like a lot to take apart for something that is not broken. I guess at my age and with a 2-3 year old toddler going through the terrible 2's and 3's I'm in the mind set of "if it ain't broken don't mess with it" for now after reading it. I know it can be done and will look at it on one of those "rainy" days in the garage when all is quiet! It may happen sooner if my Homelink took a dump and is really fried.

My 2004 Limited needs this done desperately. The previous owner installed a rear seat DVD/monitor thus eliminating the dome light altogether..

It's like "in car" GPS units, why have them when you can mount your phone to the window and use that as GPS. No need to have "in car" GPS... I'm a sucker and fell for it on my wife's Accord EXL v6. Now they want $150/year to update the GPS that is CD based! Have not bought it yet because wife still gets lost with GPS anyway or calls me for directions... lol... Same goes with DVD systems, just buy the portable one that you can move car to car or take to a soccer game or better yet dinner to occupy the kids! You can also mount the tablets these days making the portable DVD units almost obsolete like the GPS units. Sorry they did that.... Ugh.
