Mass Airflow Sensor - replacement?

2004 V8 LTD

Shop is quoting $200 to clean, $400 to replace.

Context:

Truck as been pushing misfire codes for all 8 cylinders recently. I asked my local shop to diagnose the cause of the misfire codes since it's highly unlikely all ignition coils on my v8 would be having random misfires. The local stealership wanted to replace all of them (lol). The local shop is coming back that it is running "lean" based on a number of tests they did looking at diagnostic data while driving the vehicle.They are optioning either a cleaning of the existing part or to replace with another. I have the new headers with dual exhaust + after market muffler and wonder if this is a contributory factor.

Should I ask them to clean it? Or would replacing it fix a more long term issue? Not sure where to go from here.

I have zero idea how 200$ to clean a MAF isn't considered a crime but maybe I'm missing something.

Mass air flow sensor cleaner or any electronics cleaner will do.

Let it dry thoroughly before reinstalling

I know it can cause lean codes to be thrown, but I don't know if it would be consistent across all cylinders or not. Someone will hopefully chime in here with more expertise. I've seen vacuum leaks do similar things.

Yea no kidding. @OP don't ever go to that shop again, when I read your post I was a little furious at that ridiculous high quote. I'm ok paying for stuff that is out of my expertise which is why I'm juggling between doing the exhaust headers myself or taking it to a shop. Also, Any updates????

I am cleaning the MAF today, myself, and didn't have the shop do it. So we'll see I'll report back.

How is the vehicle running? If the MAF is taking a crap, you would know it. My 99 Runner felt like it was going to die when I would accelerate hard. I ended up buying a used one at junk yard for $40 and it lasted year.

What are your misfire codes? I would post them and get some advice from others. When I had misfire codes it turned out to be a bad fuel injector.
