Master cylinder failing

Hello all. Well, the original master cylinder that came with my '98 4Runner (140,000+ miles) has failed and needs to be replaced. My question is how long should a master cylinder last? Driving is mostly inner city. A lot of start and stopping.

You are lucky to reach 140 K with LOT of stop and go traffic. You need an automatic I suppose. Get your part from the dealer or NAPA.
