Maui Hawaii

I am heading to Maui in two weeks. Spending 4 days on that Island. Planning on the Road to Hana, sunrise spot, Crater snorkeling, and several hikes along road to hana.

Anybody have other must go places or best eats that we shouldn't miss along the way?

You staying west side (Kaanapali/Lahaina or South side (Kihei/Wailea)?

Pretty sure you have to get tickets or something to watch the sunrise now. Weird but probably necessary. And if it’s cloudy, oh well.

Yeah we got a ticket for that. I believe its because of limited parking and they recommending getting there really early.

Two nights in Kula (close to road to hana and sunrise)

Two nights in Kihei (close to the molokini crater boat)
 
Maui brewing up the hill from where you are staying was excellent. Nice people!!

I went to the best little fish cafe between Kaanapali and Kapalua if you get over there. I’ll try to find the name of that one.

**Found it: Fish Market Maui, 3600 Lower Honoapiilani Rd, Lahaina, HI 96761

Monkey pod was excellent.

Eskimo candy was excellent.

I enjoyed Nicks Fishmarket, we went at happy hour and hacked it. Sat at the bar. Excellent place to watch the sunset.

Beware tourist traps, which are a LOT of places.

Happy hours are the way to save money. Hard to not be on the beach at that time though!!!

The Mai Tai with Lilikoi foam, holy crap!!!

We went to a grea little place in Kula, La Provence. We got awesome breakfast there.

I like Tasty Crust, it is a locals breakfast place, but damn, I just have to have it when I go back! It is very simple, but solid. The locals are the best people in the world. It’s a hike from Kihei, over in Waikiki, and I wouldn’t go out of my way, but it is a neat experience. Basically a hard core local breakfast diner. You can get the goods there. Big pancakes, spam, rice, and eggs!! Mmmmm!! :hungry:

I like a place if you get over to Hana, it’s called: Tai Food By Pranee. It was great!

Sugar Beach Pie Shop was very good.

The damn centipedes were like tanks.

My buddy cut one in half with a kitchen knife. The two halves ran in circles for like 3 minutes. We didn’t know how to stop them then.

One squirt of windex, though. :rip:

I miss happy hour. Damn blue laws in MA.

Good to know if I ever move back. They are like Terminators. They don't stop. They sting then ask questions later... :gun4:
 
One of my favorite activities was the Zodiac boat tour that leaves Kihei and takes you down to snorkel in La Perouse Bay and then the outer rim of Molokini. Outer rim was unreal. The water was unbelievably clear and you could see the wall of the crater descend into the abyss, hundreds of feet down. Gigantic fish, too.

Don't bother with ziplining. Waste of money.

I'm thinking about finding an AirBnB in Hana next time. It'd be nice to spend at least a couple nights out there. Driving the road to Hana and back makes for a very long day.

I will add Monkeypod to our dinner list. My wife and I are packing everything into 4 days in Maui. Sleep when we get home! After that, Oahu to stay with a friend who has the rest of our trip planned.

No more cane fields and no more cheap rent. Even in lava zone 1. On the Big Isle.

It’s okay. Apparently the owner told the inspector because I was in Hawaii rust was expected. He then kicked the guy out as he wanted to get pics of the frame. The 3 he got were enough. The one I got here was near perfect and still is 2 1/2 years later. I commute 140 miles RT and feel safe.

They like to climb up the drains into bathtubs. I always look first. Oh and always check your shoes before putting them on.

Sad. I need to go back. I miss the Island. I still have friends there and want to see them too. I cannot believe it was almost 20 years ago I lived there. Life moves too fast.

Yikes, so scummy on the owner's part. He sounds like a fella who would probably steal a pair of socks off a child and flip it for profit if he was willing to kick someone out after "3 pics that's more than enough" in regard to rust LOL. Zero patience and willing to cut corners in hopes of making a quick profit.
