Max trax?

There are a lot of decent traction boards out there but for very heavy duty use, I'll put my money on MaxTrax all day. That's not to say the others aren't good but it's like buying a weapon system when I ask myself? hmmm would I trust my life with this...Somethings I'm just going to spend the money for w/no worries...Here is how mine are mounted

lol... little extreme on the comparison with a weapon.
 
I have max trax and love them. Used them at least 20 times. For deep snow and sand they have performed flawlessly.
the key is knowing how and when to use them.

$300 has paid for itself at least 10x over.

They are a bit cheaper, but they aren't really a good replacement for a winch. I just don't think there are many situations where I'd ever use one. I use a winch all the time. And it gets me out of a lot of situations where a traction pad wouldn't help. I'm sure they're better than nothing. I don't see them as an alternative to a winch. I recognize a typical winch/mount is going to run you at least $1,000. It's a big expense. It's just a lot more useful in a lot more situations.

The key concept is, don't spin tires on the recovery boards. There is no need if you have prepped them properly.

If the material were harder - say steel - and you were to spin your tires, the result is that the boards would be ok but your tires would get shredded.

Hey how do you like that spare tire harness? I'm looking at picking one up but they're a little pricy, solves some logistical problems for me though so I'm thinking it'd be worth it. I'd love to hear any functional thoughts on it though.

Bottom-line, love it, it saves me room on the rack and it's a solid set-up. MaxTrax thought it out well. It comes with a storage bag (heavy-duty Velcro closure too) secured behind the tire and also, a heavy matting that lays behind the bottom of the tracks to prevent rubbing on the spare tire. I purchased for under $100 but have seem some odd fluctuations on the price but for right under a bill, I'll take it and it holds 4 tracks semi-clean...well worth it for me. Hope that helps...

Right on and agree, these are no substitution for a winch, however in a lot of situations these will recover very well especially w/4 of them...decent shovel too

Awesome, naw that's perfect. I noticed the pricing differences. Sierra Expeditions seemed to have the best price but they're out of stock right now.. seen them up as high as $150. Thanks man.

Nothing too fancy. Just a couple washers and some plastic spacers from Ace Hardware.
They work great and have no issues.

Ok interesting, i see you have the wire mesh floor base. My rack just has bars so i'd have to figure something else out.

How about a small u-bolt with a metal bar placed over the top of the bar. You could cut one side low to get a nut just above the bar. The other side would remain long to connect to. I'm not sure the spacing would work out, as I don't have that rack or traction board, but just trying to help you think it out.

It may not be cost effective, but I think Bajarack sells a Maxtrax mount for your rack. They didn't for mine so I had to improvise
