Maybe dumb, maybe not (daystar lift)

Without actually testing the stock runner in the conditions I need it to perform in, I have gone ahead and ordered a Daystar 2.5" F/R lift kit.

On the one hand, I could have tried to get out to the lake and see if things were passable as is. However, I see the lift as good insurance that I can do my lake trail right up to the cottage without worry.

I hope that I preserve most of the highway ride&noise levels, but heck, in the worst case, I could always uninstall the kit. Then I could spend 5x that amount repairing the road section I need to cross. There is also a fast water crossing (but relatively shallow) so I should get on top of the diff breather mod.

I also ordered the dension ice-link. It was hard to source anything else in Canada (I found a Cdn distributor for dension). It was cheaper then VAIS and I hope it does the trick.

Within a few weeks everything should be in place. Pics will follow!

What are you trying to accomplish ? More ground clearance ?

More ground clearance will only come from larger tire's that you will be able to fit under there that will be bigger than stock or a step up from stock 265/70/17 and you can fit a 285/70/17 which will give you an add'l 1/2" of clearance over a 265. ALthough the body will be up higher than stock .

Suspension lift will also give you more ground clearance. I got the Revtek 3inch lift. On the same tires I can crawl under my vehicle without any problems, where before I got the lift, I could not.

You will get more ground clearance up front with a lift because of the IFS, so the diff is higher off the ground in the front. However, due to the solid axle in the rear, a lift will not do anything to increase ground clearance with the diff, the only way to get more ground clearance in the rear is with bigger tires. The rest of the vehicle will indeed be higher off the ground with a lift.
