OK, I admit, I didn’t really get out and kick the tires and open the hood and refill my blinker fluid, but ...
Yesterday, I took my elderly mother to her doctor, 170 miles away. We went in my 2018 SR5, then having about 36,800 miles on it when I left early in the morning. Drove fine at the legal 80mph speed limit and we had no issue.
After her doctor visit, it was lunch time, so we drove to another part of the city and went through a drive though, got our lunch and found a shady place to park to have our lunch. It was cool enough still that I rolled down the front windows and shut of the ignition.
You know how you might have your cell phone in your pocket and you “feel” it vibrate, but upon checking it didn’t? Scientists call it phantom vibration. I experienced something similar.
As we were eating soon after shutting down the 4Runner, I became aware of very faint but persistant vibration in my feet and lower legs. I felt as though my truck was idling. I checked the dash, the gauges were black, the ignition was off. It was quite busy in the parking lot, with a lot of vehicles moving about, plus those on the boulevard, so, there was a lot background ambient noise; enough so that even if my truck was idling, I wouldn’t have been able to hear it. I figured it must be phantom vibration, so forgot about it and continued with my lunch.
After about 15 minutes, I was still feeling the vibration. So I turned the key to the on position. The gauges booted, the infotainment system booted as normal. The vibration was still there. I shut off the ignition again. Vibration quit. I noted to Mom what I was feeling, she said she felt the vibration also, and she also felt it quit.
Since then, I am getting a MAINTENANCE REQUIRED SOON message in the display between the speedo and tach. I checked my maintenance apps and nothing is close to the date/mileage to address them. The truck now has just over 37,000 miles after coming home. Since this message just started I know it isn’t reminding me of anything needed to be addressed for a 35,000 service interval. So I got brave and reset the message as per the owner’s manual on page 345.
The truck is driving normally. No check engine light or any other warning lights are lit.
Anyone else experience this? Or do I need a shrink??
