Just wondering if there's a difference between the Eclipse 8812 or the SW8122? Debating on which one to purchase.

And I'm also debating whether or not to just purchase the Eclipse 88100 due to the fact that I already have a 10" sub that I could give to my son if I decide to purchase this one.

looks like one is newer than the other, the older one i see is kinda beat up on the dust cap, usually when i see dents on the cap, i avoid big time, never know if the voice coil rubbed inside the magnet. also what amp do you have to power it? match the amp to the sub. let say if the amp can do 2 ohm at 500w, have a sub thats at least 300 to 600w at 2 ohms. if you know what your doing, you can run 500w of clean unclip power to a sub thats rated 300w. most pros will send atleast twice the power. but its always good to match the power of the amp to the speaker.

Right now I have the Soundstream PN1.650D mono amp. On the sumo tests it was showing close to 400 watts dynamic and around 350ish certified at 4 ohms. At 2 ohms, it tested just under 600 watts I think certified and a little over 650 watts dynamic.

I know that with the 4 ohm DVC, I can get it down to a 2 ohm load. I just don't know if I can do that with the 4 ohm single voice coil, which the 8812 has. As for the SW8122DVC 4 ohm, like you said, the only thing I'm worried about are all the dents in the coil on one of them. But for $140 for both plus the box, it's really tempting. The 8812 is being sold to me for $80 a woofer and according to him he has 4 of them, but like I said the single ohm is the one that's keeping me from taking the plunge and purchase the woofer.

The 10" 88100DVC looks good since each coil is rated at 4 ohms and I can get it down to a 2 ohm load and my amp should give it enough power.

That's another thing that's keeping me also from purchasing the 2 12" SW8122 subs since I know my amp isn't powerful enough to power both which means I have to purchase another amp and which case my wife will end up divorcing my ass right before doing a Lorena Bobbitt number on me lol.

I know that I can purchase the 10" but I've been wanting to upgrade to a 12" sub for awhile. Or should I just go the route of buying a JL Audio 12W0V3 for $120 and get a new ported or sealed prefab box for free from Sonic?

That one is nice sounding and brand new. I am using that on in the camry right no and it sounds enough for light bass head. The 12s are a little more and if you need trunk space stick with the 10s. Your amp is fine for it since it can produce enough power at 2ohm. Give your son the old sub you have now and upgrade yourself as a early gift.

Man you're trying to get me in trouble with the wife lol. But in all seriousness, I ended up purchasing the 10" Eclipse sub. The sub looks nice. Other than that small ding on the cone, sub looks great.

The sub is rated at 500 watts RMS, if I was to purchase an amp that's rated 900 watts RMS at 2 ohms, would that be too much power for the sub? Max wattage the sub can take is 1000 watts RMS.

it wouldnt be a problem with me, i always watch it when i push it hard tho. if its not going to be played at full tilt, i dont see a problem. just make sure the signal is clean and unclip. if the sub is in a sealed box, i wouldnt worry about it, but i always know where the max volume i have it on. on the pioneer avh-x3800bhs, i know it dont distort till 38, i have my gains set with the volume at 37, but i do use a smd-dd1. that is installed in the camry and i can play at 30 and its plenty loud. my lady only do 18-23 and its loud for her. using a rf t600-4 thats pushing 120w rms i think to each speaker. and a jl 500/1 with the subs i posted.

Yeah I took the wife's 3800 and I bought her the AVH-X490BS. Just looking at her touch screen made me want one and the only thing I could think of was get her a bigger and better unit so she won't be too mad at me lol.

As far as using the SMD-DD1 I don't have that on hand. I've been reading up and watching videos on how to set amp gain using my ears, and so far it's meh. Still kinda have to rely on a little bass boost to get some extra bass out of my sub.

And as far as volume levels are concerned X I usually put it around 15-16, sometimes cranking it to 20 max. I'm getting older and my hearing is starting to get a little bad due to the loud music. That and when I was in the Air Force, my dumb ass didn't bother using a lot of ear protection around the fighter aircraft so that kinda messed up my hearing a bit. Thanks

I think when setting the gain for sub. I'm at nearly close to half way. Maybe just a shy off of full half. I know it's like that for the mids and high amp.
