Maybe time to say Goodbye

Fellow members, I think it may be time to say goodbye. The family may be getting bigger and I'm looking to upgrade to an LX 470.

That said. Is there any good advice for selling? I know Craigslist and all that but I'm open to trade (I realize I'd owe a bit) as well. It's a very good condition 2001 Limited 4WD with all service records from the dealer. New timing belt and water pump done @ 111K it now was 161K. The going rate (if you can even find one) is 7-9K. It's completely stock minus the running baords (I still have them) and I have fairly new BFG AT's on it as well. I have babied it since 99k and it's been the best auto I've ever owned.

I guess I'm trying to avoid the hassle of selling it myself but I need to get what it's worth. Nothing is broken, the power antenna even works perfect.

Lastly, I'm having a tough time running down a J100 or LX 470. Is there a particular place I can go on the internet to browse, even across state lines? Ebay is overpriced and Craigslist fell short. Expo maybe?

An LX on Expo will typically carry with it a hefty price tag.

Check out ih8mud as well.

I was looking at a 100 series but they're just too big for my needs. I "settled" for a GX470 and couldn't be happier. HUGE compared to the 3rd gen.

Here's a nice 100 in Florida

I bet you could get this at a steal too... Buyer seems motivated. Many price drops, and has been for sale for a long time.

that's funny you said that. I was also looking at GX 470 as well. One review said for an SUV that wieght should have more interior room, are you happy with the space? Looking at it for:

1 wife
1 infant
2 dogs

If I had to buy another toyota. I'd get FZJ80. Good size, front factory SAS. It's a coil set up all around. And they come factory front and rear elocker. You can't tell me , this isn't the ultimate off road toyota !! Minus tho diesel.

I have:
1 wife
0 infants
2 dogs

Tons of room. The cargo area in the back is huge compared to the 3rd gen.

Has plenty of power, I think. The 3.73 gears leave a bit to be desired if you plan on armor wheels and tires. Stock form though it was great.

I like your BF-51 choice. Thats what we are putting on wifes Tacoma.

I agree the 3.73 gears on the new SUV's kind of sucks. All about that highway gas mileage!

My son-in-law went for a Sequoia. They are nice and big and don't demand a premium like the ones that you're looking for.

Look to see if your area or perhaps a nearby large city has a "used car lot" for owners. A local college here will rent out their parking lot on weekends and owners just set a price, leave a set of keys for the car lot attendants and a phone number. The attendants can start the engine but no one is permitted to drive it unless the owner is on the premises, and they have a preset test drive route and everything.

I sold a 2WD 4Runner with over 200k miles in 2 days using a place like this. Had a total of 3 phone calls from people who already saw the vehicle, heard it run, and got to kick the tires all they wanted. Craigslist you'll have people just wasting your time.

My wife drives our 05 LC. I got lucky and found a one owner vehicle in immaculate condition. Got a steal of a price on it too.

My favorite place to look is www.carsforsale.com

Good luck with the search and sorry you're having to let go of your runner.

I enjoy driving both of these vehicles a whole lot.

Thanks Everyone. Since no one ever sells their Toyota SUV's it's really hard to find one, even a 75 mile drives yields little inventory.

I will be very sorry to see it go. I'm won't be ready to sell for a few more months but I'll post up an ad when ready.

If you are getting a TLC 100, 98 and 99 modles comes with 2 front pinion and they fail. 2000+ models comes with 4 pinion so find one of those.
Issues with TLC:
2000+ cruisers have traction control and brake masterpump is something to pay attention.
98-99 comes with rear locker (non on 2000+ models)
Gas mileage 10 in the city and 12-14 MPG on highway.
2003 + models have 5 speed A/T trans doing a better gas mileage.
