Mc'Donald's Lawsuit and the truth =)

I don't know... I just think when a conversation comes out and people comment like this, its just rude to anyone with another point of view other than your own. Its MUCH different than your 4Runner analogy and you know it.

Like most of you know, its your rights as americans to bitch and moan about any little thing. Go bitch about the hot coffee lawsuit... go figure the coffee was hot. Go bitch about the lawsuit where a burglar fell through a sunroof, landed on a kitchen knife and sewed the persons home. Go bitch about the little kid who rode a vaccum cleaner naked and got his johnson cut off by the fan. People do stupid things, and luckily your elected government protects their stupidity... so stop bitching. Its either the ability to bitch and moan about everything or no right at all.

*hehe* I fully agree with you...the same "rights" that allow me to bitch about them are the very same "rights" that they have to sue and bitch at McD's ;)

Doesnt make it logical...or right ;)

I am all for people being able to disagree. However, I seem to like to have a little logic behind what I belive and not blindly follow "the sheep of Americal"....Mc'D's is bad!! *why*..uhh..I dunno...its just BAD! and if I can sue and get some $$ then I will!!

I never said they don't have the RIGHT to sue...I just said it is a stupid lawsuit...and THEY and YOU know...just as the examples you gave.

People need to take responsibility for thier own actions...hot coffee...burglar...kid....no one's fault but their own. Sometimes what happens to you IS your fault ;) Accept it and move on with your life instead of pointing fingers at someone else.

Nothing rude about his post (or mine) IMHO. We're using extreme examples to prove a point just as I did. Sometimes when you present these situations in their most extreme scenarios, the point becomes much more clear (can be kinda funny too! ;): ). I see no fundamental difference in the 4runner analogy. Please explain the difference as you see it.

I won't disagree with you on that. The increase in the number of fast food places have definitely had an impact on mom&pop 'home cooking' places.

Alot of those Mom&Pop's use real butter and transaturated oils too. Plus they give you too much food in a serving. Have you ever measured a serving of dry cereal? A serving is not much more than a tablespoon.

Eat at home, save your money and live a healthier life. Choose what you put in your body, don't leave it up to a hidden 'chef'.

Now travelling to a new area is cool and you should try out the local flavor. But this litigation is being brought about by people who eat this stuff 24/7 by PERSONAL CHOICE. Who said McD's had to be the official kitchen of America and take responsibility for something it has no responsibility over?

I am addicted to gambling, I am going to sue Las Vegas because I saw a commercial to come have 'fun'.

I am addicted to beer, so I am going to sue the lizards.

I am addicted to Nick@Nite, so I am going to sue my local cable provider.

Wake up America, something drastically needs to be done to stop this never ending drain of resources.

To a degree. We are 'free' Americans, doesn't mean I can go rob a bank because I am free. There are limits, or should be.

This is not about disagreeing about another opinion, this is about $$$, and some obese slob trying to blame someone else for his/her irresponsibility and hit 'paydirt' by milking the system.

Or it could be construed as the never ending debate of conservative v. liberal politics. I guess you now know my position.

So you're saying you can't see the ethical implications with a company who engineers their food with horribly unhealthy chemical additives, horrible ingredients, and often false advertising?

Anyone see the commercial talking about the salad being a healthier option when the carb fad came out? Yeah its not. Hows that not false advertising? So when they add horribly unhealthy chemical additives to get you more hungry, instead of using more pure and healthy materials, JUST to get you to spend another buck really quickly while you're in the store, YOU CAN'T SEE THE ETHICAL IMPLICATIONS WITH A COMPANY THAT DOES THIS? This isn't an issue of legality in my mind, its an issue of ethical implications for Mc.Donald's.
Just like it isn't illegal to use 7 cent a day workers in Asia, and just like it isn't illegal to use child labor around the world, theres ethical implications.
You guys should see past your legal boundries, not everything thats legal is right...
Funny part is I don't think its McDonald's fault, but its not an open and shut case like you put it, its very contreversial.

Ahahahaha... yea... its nice to talk about this as a drain of resrouces... much unlike the drain of resources with the 'colony' that the US has to support in the Middle East both militarily, economically and politically, and this little 'war on terrorists with oil' crusade... thats not a drain, my bad...

The difference?
One sells you a car.
The other sells you a food.
(we're doing the same right now)
One provides horrible health hazards for the rest of your life, while advertising 'more nutritious options'.... please name one nutritious option? yeah... i thought so...
The other is a car.

great comparison... i'm clapping if you can't hear me.

I would LOVE to see your face going to some restaurant and then after you ate it, you see small print that says, "Our foods contain horrible toxins that will dimish your life span." In essence, thats the same thing you're arguing. 'AS LONG AS ITS ADVERTISED, YOU'RE THE IDIOT FOR EATING IT'.... so I'm sure you guys wouldn't bitch about finding out that a company is knowingly and purposely doing the worst possible thing to harm you just to make a quick buck...

its not the product...its the affect of the product in question here....the food "makes you fat" and the 4Runner "made me poor".

Whats wrong with that comparison? Its silly you say?? SO IS BLAMING McD's for pigging out and getting fat. If you dont like McD's..DONT EAT THERE....and if you can't see me I'm rolling my eyes at you.

That's the POINT! They are BOTH silly situations and silly arguments!

'AS LONG AS ITS ADVERTISED, YOU'RE THE IDIOT FOR EATING IT'

The table of nutritional information is a big poster RIGHT NEXT to the counter. I've looked at it, cuz I was curious about the chicken nugets. So YES...its right there in front of me...if I still eat it, I am the idiot ;)

misc. comments:

I didnt eat McD's as a kid because of the commercials...I at McD's as a kid when my parents said "we are just gonna grab some McD's"....the same way a camel in sunglasses has not made me start smoking ;) (had a camel made me start smoking, that would have meant my parents did not do a good job teaching me to use my brain)

I like McD's...not everything on the menu...but I like several things they sell....I dont eat there daily, but I do eat there sometimes...and I am in fine health.

Am I the exception? McD's "death food" doesnt have any bad affects on me??? My cholesterol is fine...I'm not overweight...my blood sugar level is fine....yet I eat at McD's....I guess I'm the medical mystery ;)

We're going in circles... I have been at McDonald's so many times in my life and never once have I seen the nutritional components, neither have I looked for them. But still, the fact that I have never seen them seems really odd to me, and the fact that they advertise salads as healthy in some past commercials is very sketchy.

The whole analogy thing... if you still can't see how an advertisement for a healthier option is dooping someone thats trying to be healthy, even though its their stupidity to not check, is wrong, I don't see what is. In terms more common to you, imagine your wife/girlfriend/sister/mother buys a car, and its a 4runner, and she pays for the sport but recieves it as the standard, no XREAS, you think its fair? ITS HER FAULT SHE DIDN'T KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT MECHANICS TO FIGURE OUT IT DIDN'T HAVE XREAS, ITS HER FAULT SHE GOT DOOPED. I think the corporations have a responsability to make a QUALITY product as well as to sell quantities of products, and if thats too idealistic then I'm sorry. I'll just end the conversation here... if you still don't see the other point of view and think its completely stupid then theres no point to continue to talk about this... i'm just beating a dead horse.

Like I said, I don't agree with the people sueing McDonalds, but don't make them out to be the nice corporation thats being honest with their customers and being ethical... its far from that.

MArk my words, fast food chains will be exactly in the same boat as tabacco companies today in 20 -30 years time. Yes they will still be avilible, but no ads, health warning, etc.

Their food is a health risk and should be labelled as such. Like smokes (I stiil enjoy my odd cigar) they should still be availible, but should carry the same warning for your health. Similar to tabacco, marketing to children should be stopped.

Obesity is becoming (probably already is) the single biggest health risk in the USA (Western Europe is following quickly). Fast food companies is one of the cornerstones of this BIG problem and should be managed as such.

Should it be availible?? yes, but you have been warned. Eating McDonalds is just as hazardous (maybe even more) than smoking. Unless they clean up their menu, they should be marked as a health hazard.

Like tabacco companies, they still deny the fact that their food is a health risk, while they clearly know otherwise. As such they should be able to be penalized in a court of law.

As to them listing all the stuff in their food, I dont think so. Go check up on the issue that was brought against them for the oil they used for their fries, etc. They committed to change it but never did.

In the last year most McDonalds have started offering salads now as well, maybe they are trying to clean up their menu a bit. Or is it just like light cigarettes hhhhmmmmm.

My 2c.

I'm not sayin that obesity isnt a problem...I'm not saying that people eating a lot of fast food is not a problem...What I am sayin is eat smart. Eating at McD's once or twice a week will not kill you ;) Eat there every day, all day (and not exercise) and you MIGHT have a few health issues. The guy in the movie ate only at McD's every day.... Anyone that is trying to watch what they eat wouldnt do this (hence the "eat smart") Who knows..if u eat there every day, all day and train like a boxer, you might still be in perfect health ;)

But by that same argument, every bakery in the nation should be shut down as they make their living of selling food that is "not good for you"...I mean c'mon, an entire shop fully of sweets and doughnuts....sugar...fats...carbs...mmmmm

People are entitled to their own opinions. I believe that McD's should be able to sell what they want...if you dont like it, dont eat there....if enough people stop eating there, McD's will eventually go out of business....but I happen to like their burgers...and I'm in fine health.

As for the analogy...it is SUPPOSED to be silly...that is the point.

I'm getting out of this argument as I have no idea why it is even on a 4Runner discussion board *LOL*.
(I know it is in the OFF-TOPIC section, but, still, I'm here to enjoy the 4Runner community...not argue over fast food)

I will read other's replys, but I will no longer post on this subject as I believe my views on the issue have been made clear ;)

You keep filling up your Runner with gas right?

And tell me how that has anything to do with draining resources...
I do it because I need to live and work... last time I checked donut fueled cars weren't too cheap or available... and water doesn't work on mine either.

Wait... can you still buy oil internationally... or do you just have to invade countries to get it now a days?

*No disrespect meant to soldiers... just the leaders... thought that should be said.

Study Up!

All i can say is that its everyones choice to eat what they want. I have been studing in the "natural" way of life and eating and everything like that for a while now. I have been eating nothing but 100% organic food from breakfest to lunch to dinner for the past year and a half. After 50lbs lost and feeling a hell of a lot better, fast food makes me sick! YES i have the ocational Subway, Quiznos fast food of THAT nature. Yes its processed and what not. But compared to what the "meat" is made of at a fast food burger joint, if i eat out i try and stay away from the foods cooked in trans fatty oils and hydroginated oils. Your body does not recognizes these things as food. It can not process it AT ALL. I know that now if i even think about eating at a place like CRAP donalds it makes me sick to my stomach. ESPECIALLY after watching super size me! People make me laugh when they say they will eat what they want. Yeah eat what you want, you might think you are healthy b/c you workout and eat like that. But its still not good for your body and its still taking a tole on it. Maybe not now but you will be kicking yourself in the ass later. If you could and had the time, funds, ect. to eat and study the organic way of life for a year...shot or even 2 months. Try and tell me that you want some McD's after studing and knowing what kind of crap is in ANY and ALL processed foods. You might change your mind about eating like that. Welp thats just my opinion and like an asshole everyones got one. THis was a good thread to get started, i like seeing everyone has to say about off topic stuff like this

You guys are killing my business.......SHHHHH.....i need McDonalds, Wendys, and Burger Kings to keep in business! Damn those Subways!! :( Jared is evil i tell ya!

How the hell am i gonna put food (ok, a lot of food) on the table if you guys take away fast food???!! :D

Obesity...that's just a Subway conspiracy! There's no such thing! Obesity means that you have extra gas (literally and figuratively) in the tank and extra insulation for the cold weather! :D Just look at the polar bears!

Shhhh...let's keep this low............my boat payments depend on it! It ain't free ya know!:) But, if you do sue someone, then please include me in the deal.

Just kidding.:D

I agree with you.

It is VERY expensive to eat healthy.
