McKesh Mirrors

I bought a pair of McKesh mirrors a while back to use as towing mirrors on my T4R and unless I'm missing something they don't fit well nor do they stay on properly. I installed the passenger side mirror and the bottom door attachment kept pulling out because of the plastic cladding. I gave up right after that because it looked like the mirrors would tear up my truck.

So, for those of you who have successfully attached these mirrors - how the heck did you do it?

I had the same problem. I just picked some mirrors up recently and tried to install them last week. Couldn't get the bottom clips under the door because of the body cladding. If you look under the door on the cladding, you'll see an indent a couple of inches long where the clips will fit but they aren't deep enough. I didn't have time yet but I plan on using a dremel tool or something and notching the tabs out. This should allow the clips to fit up and under the cladding. My only concern is that the mirrors are clamped to the door sill up top and only the body cladding on the bottom and not the door itself. I imagine if it's not ratcheted too tight it should be ok. Might try it tomorrow, I'll let you know how it goes.

I got it done today. Not too difficult. I used a sharp box cutter blade and cut the notches out in the bottom of the plastic door molding. Now the lower strap clips fit and the door can close. I also bent the upper mirror tabs that sit in the window sill a little so they had more room between the window glass. The mirrors have to sit as far forward on the door sill as possible in order for the straps to be straight to the bottom of the door and align with the notches underneath. It took a little while to get them adjusted just right, but now they sit nice and snug and are easy to remove and put back on. Don't forget to put a twist in the upper strap to prevent them from vibrating in the wind. I would normally wash the doors first before putting the mirrors on.

That was what I meant to post. I used to use mirrors but went to a camera system as there are no blind spots. In the description I have a link to the ebay seller too if anyone is interested. Stay away from wireless systems. The cheap ones don't work.

As promised. Pics are of the underside of each door, lying on my back looking up, where the indents were cut out. The slots are now large and deep enough for the McKesh clips to fit in.

The bottom of your door looks different than mine. It looks like the metal of your door goes all the way to the bottom whereas the plastic door cladding on mine is at the bottom, not the metal door. I hope that makes sense.

I know what you mean. Didn't realize the cladding had changed or when. Mine is basically stuck on the front of the door and does not wrap around underneath. Not sure what you can do to make it work. Any pics of your door/cladding?
