Mechanical transmission gauge

We have a lot of posts about transmission temperatures and ScanGauge readings but no real idea whether or not they are accurate or where they read the temps. Since I've become a bit OCD on the subject I'm thinking of adding a mechanical gauge.

The question: Has anyone installed a mechanical transmission temperature gauge?

I was at Princess Auto today and I wondered the exact same thing.

I will say, using Techstream with a $30 cable reads out accurate A/T temp data, so that has been my go-to lately.

My goal is to see if the ScanGauge is correct or not. I assume that Techstream gives the reading from the ECU as does the SG, am I right?

I suppose I could simply compare TS to SG if I could find someone with TS that wouldn't charge me some absurd fee for a quick check.

I would do it for free if you were local!

I actually don't know how accurate the TS is vs the SG but I am inclined to trust it. I ran my TS in real time while driving and watched it fluctuate and do it's thing. Seemed to meet my expectations anyway.

Hooked it up in stop-and-go traffic after a mid-hot-day highway jaunt and watched the temp climb to around 190F, and then hooked it up on the highway on a cool night after a day of towing a 5x8 covered trailer and read out mid 140F...
