Hello Everyone,
Newbie here. Just purchased an 03 SR5 4WD with 85K miles, in fantastic shape, to replace a '10 Subie Impreza Outback with 40K miles. I know, sounds funny, replacing a newer, less mileage vehicle with an older, higher mileage one. Well, the primary reason is one of our two dogs who was supposed to be fully grown when we got him from the shelter last year. He was about the same size as the other one (50 lbs), but has proceeded to keep growing. Now he's twice the size at areound 110 lbs. The Subie wasn't cutting it. I had a 98 4Runner years ago and loved it; it was a great dog vehicle and really reliable, but didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for a truck since we have other vehicles and I eventually want to buy a Range Rover Sport for our lux ride.
So now I want to create a space back there for them that's safe and bought a cargo net, but it wasn't designed for a 4Runner and the younger dog will likely chew through it. An off-the-shelf adjustable metal barrier will not do because it will not restrain them in a frontal crash. So I'm looking for a bolt-on type metal barrier but am getting nowhere online. The closest I got was "Speski Offroad", who makes bolt-on metal barreriers but they just told me they do not have a solution for the 03 4Runner due to the lack of a 2nd captured nut (that the later models apparently have).
Does anyone out there have a solution? I would even be open to getting something custom made if it were local (Southern Calif).
