Metal oil filter housing

I recently found out that there are a lot of counterfeit Toyota parts on amazon and all over the place, make sure you buy the aluminum oil filter housing from a Toyota dealer !

The aluminum oil filter housing that fits the 4Runner is the one for the Camry, and you need to swap the inner tube.

Part number: 15620-31060 (OEM Toyota Camry). The bottom cap part number is 15643-31050.

I use a Wix 51068 / Napa Gold 1068 oil filter (at $4.58 each ... bought in bulk )

Surprised to see the cost of that adapter at $200. I guess it makes sense if you do your own oil changes. I do not do my own changes. I could see a service tech spinning that sucker loose and not retightening. The fact that it also adds another potential gasket to leak is an issue for me as well.

These are the parts for a metal filter housing. I got a second one from a dealer that sent me two when I only ordered one. I'll put it on my new 2021 if I need to in the future. All you have to do is replace the tube with the one off your old filter. Just press on the down on the tabs between the holders on the inside of the filter and you can twist the tube off.

I went with a Baxter Performance spin on filter kit because of all the issues with the oem filter.

Yes it is. You push down the tabs then push the whole tube down and twist it off. Replace the tube with the stock tube and put the tabs back to their original position then just push it down and twist it into place.

Don’t forget to bend the tabs back up so the tube stays in place!

The Toyota brand metal filter housing is in and no leaks. If it wasn’t so difficult to figure out how to post pictures on here I could show y’all the huge difference in casting and finishing quality. Didn’t get any calipers out but it comparing the Toyota to the Doorman unit, it seems like the recess for the o-ring was too deep on the doorman and doesn’t allow the o-ring to protrude far enough.

I replaced the plastic housing with the aluminum, did all the mods and so on.

I have about 3 oil changes with this housing and what I notice is, right after the oil change, after a drive, the housing would ooze a bit of oil (becomes oily), and after I wipe it off, there is no leak at all, dry like a bone until the next oil change.

I am guessing the o-rings take a minute to seal the housing completely.

Pleased with the change so far.

What are the tabs exactly. All my tabs are pretty much broken but it still works with the proper filter wrench. The FSM talks about not breaking some bracket but I've dont have any kind of bracket around there. Never had a problem.

Does anyone have the oem pt number for the aluminum housing? Everyone I have looked up said will not fit and shows for 14 and up?
