Upgrading the oil filter housing and now I have questions.

Yesterday I swapped out the plastic oil filter housing for the metal one which I picked up at my local dealer. I replaced the center tube in the new one with the old one. I did NOT use the old spring from the original plastic housing (I used the new spring). Is this going to be a problem? Also, the plastic housing had a metal clip in place to prevent the unit from loosening. Do I need to put it on the metal housing? Your thoughts and experiences would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I recall the springs being the same when I installed mine.
As far as the metal locator clip, it’s not necessary
You could always scribe a mark if you want a permanent marker on you aluminum can.

I would suggest switching back to the plastic housing. :flame:

Good for using the correct (New) spring, clip does not matter with the metal one, but you could use it as a refence mark as to how tight.

The aluminum housing isn't an upgrade. The plastic one works more than adequately as long as you don't overtighten it or use the wrong removal tool. I switched and look back wondering why I ever did so I switched back.

Anyone know how to keep the spring/funnel piece from coming loose? I've tried bending tabs but feel like I'm missing something

Bending the tabs is all that is required.
After bending the tabs, if you cannot turn and remove the perforated tube, then its secure.

When one replaces the perforated tube, one must bend the tabs down IIRC, once the tube has been replaced one must bend the tabs back to the original position.
