Michelin tire...new?

I just saw these on tirerack.com...in the stock 265/65R17 size...

anyone know anything about them?

Looks like a nice compromise tread between the non-agrssive CrossTerrains and the mudder look of the LTXs. Wonder how long it will take CostCo to supply them? (I like their free road hazzard, mounting, balancing, roatation and flat repair).

What the hell is "SR" speed rating?? I've never heard of that rating...

I did, however, run across an ad in the Craigslist for 4 Michelin LTX A\S LT 265 70 R 17 for 300 dollars. They had less than 500 miles on them but I have heard they are loud and stiff. Maybe ver. 2 will fix that...

It's about time that Michelin updates the A/T tire. I like it. It is probably made to compete more with the REVOs, the Nittos, and the GY SilentArmor than the BFG AT KO. There are many choices out there in the AT department. It reminds me of the Bridgestone Dueler AT (non-REVO).

Unless I'm missing something , that does not compare in the aggressive looks dept , with those you mentioned. If someone didn't say it was an AT I would have thought it was a street tire or A/S.

I went back and looked , that does not look as aggressive as the Revo or the reg BS AT. ( I have both in my garage ...lol)

What load ratings does it come in ?

BTW , I think the Nitto TG is more like a BFG AT than a Revo as far as aggressive goes in looks , but photo's can always make things look better than in person.

Perhaps I was one that said it was "more" agresssive. Agree it not an AT tread --- and more ASA. Put compared to the CT which appears more a high performance summer street tire --- it does have more agressive tread. Just relative to what you are comparing it too.

If it wears like the M/S or original A/T without the hard ride, and has the on-road characteristics of the Cross Terrain, then I'm gonna get me some!

I'm sure, however, it'll cost a pretty penny here in the Bay Area where every tire retailer seems to charge 20% more than the alledged "street price". Went to a stealership the other day and they wanted $241 per tire for the cross terrains. I laughed.

Costco will order ANY tire that Michelin makes (or any tire from the other brand that they carry).

Yup...and you will see that this will never make it to my G500. And this goes to show that the snowflake is NOT an advertising tool (as some have claimed). Only a few tires satisfy the requirement.

IMHO, it looks too tame...the tread looks more tame than Bridgestone Dueler REVOs and Goodyear Wrangler SA. But, i guess that it performs good enough off-road. As noted in the story, this tire is NOT made to compete with the BFG AT KO, which is more off-road oriented.

I had to ship those Mich's back , since there was no snowfalke on them.I thought I saw a shopping mall insignia on them.....lol. I would like to see them in person.

I dont know what I will get next for an AT tire , already been searching and looking.

so far my options that I've looked at :
BFG AT - "C" rated 16/32 depth
NITTO TG - "C" rated 16/32 depth
GY SA - "P" or "C" rated P=13/32 or C=16/32

Any other suggestions.........

Was at Costco today and the manager was all high on the LTX. He just came back from a 4 day Michelin camp in Vermont. They had them running several different courses in Range Rovers.

They did head-to-head tests with the Revo & the LTX. Supposedly the LTX had even more pulling force, in the mud, than the BFG KO. He said the LTX was by far the all around favorite, and he said they would be going on his Jeep.

The little "bitting edges" are the advertised traction advantage of these tires. He said they were designed to directly take on the Revo. While the LTX, in their brochure, bested the Revo only by a small margin inoff-road traction & on-road comfort, it is supposed to last 30% longer (rated 60k miles).

In any case, I have to give this new Michelin strong consideration - especially since they come in the stock size, and are priced a little under the Revo.

Well, it does not take much to beat the BFG AT KO in mud! BFG AT KO sucks in mud (as do most AT tires)...trust me, i have experienced this more than once.

I disagree !! More geared to the hiway M&S rating than the AT Revo or Especially the GY Silent armor AT.

Although I still have mixed emotions about the Revo , there are a crapload of them on trucks here. The thing I like about the GY SA is I can still get a "P" rated tire that rides good and have the more strength than and better sidewall than a standard "P" rated tire . I wish the "P" rated GY SA has a deeper tread like a 16/32 ( for "C" Rated ) compared to the others ("P" rated ) with 13/32 like the others.

The BFG is my favorite , but concerned their technology ( compounds & tread design) has not changed in many many moons . When Mine got down to 40k on my Explorer they would knock your filling out of your teeth the rubber was so hard. One thing I like about the Revo ,. ride has not changed and feels good ( a little mush at higher speeds), louder but good. We get snow here that is what we call "lake effect" and it's usually heavy wet compacted. Maybe that is where that snowflake rating might be better.

What a crock that review is... about as objective as a virgin in a brothel.

They guy starts the review saying he never drives a truck so why are we supposed to think anything he says is any more than a bunch of Michelin PR spoon fed to him on a nice press junket. He just regurgitated the press kit after a couple of worthless introductory paragraphs about the Alabama climate, of which he also admits to knowing nothing about.
