Michelin LTX A/T2...new?

That always happens. Happened to my SE wheels and worse to my set of Sequoia wheels. Depends on the finish of the wheel (paint vs. polished metal) but is somewhat avoidable do to the pressure of metal-on-metal of the cheap stupid weights they use and the fact they are clamped on. If you can get them to fix/replace the wheel for you, however, more power to you! I've had the dealership replace a wheel for scratching it but it was a nice size gouge on the spoke, not the lip.
On a side note, when Costco installed my new tires, the installer gouged and marked all of my stock 17" Aluminum wheels. Some worse than others, but very obvious to the watchful eye. I do have a claim in with Costco though regarding the cosmetic damage. The damage appears to have come from removing the wheel weights. There are distinct gouges below all the old locations.

Its your choice. You may have raised white letters out or black out. I chose to have the black side out. I'm sure white out would look good on the Sport Edition.
Big04, that's pretty good mileage out of your stock Dunlaps.
How do the AT2s do noise-wise? Are they any louder than the stock Dunlaps?
What's the Nitrogen-filled business about? Is this something they do with all new tires?

Costco fills their tires with Nitrogen because its suppose to lose pressure slower than air; it is a dry gas so you don't have moisture corroding the wheel and insides; and Nitrogen responds better to temperature changes than air. BUT, Consumer Reports just did a test on Nitrogen filled tires and saw very little benefit after a year of testing. Costco doesn't charge anything for the Nitrogen so who cares. I just top off my tires with regular air when needed.

I realize this is an old thread, but my Dunlops are about to meet their maker.
From being on here a while, I have always heard the Revos being preached and had decided a long time ago I would buy those when it was time to replace my Dunlops, but lately I've been leaning towards these Michelins. My whole family runs Michelins, and I had them on my old Tahoe. I've always been impressed with their longevity.
The Revos seem to score better on Tirerack in most of the categories, except tread wear, which is actually fairly important to me. Like the guy who posted above with the nice pictures, I am about 90% on-road and use my 4Runner principally as a commuter, but I like to get it dirty on occassion (nothing serious -- and probably nothing I couldn't do with 2WD).
Ultimately, an A/T tire for me is mostly vanity. I just love the look. It's the same reason I have 4WD, V8, and a Sport Edition. It's macho, and I make no apologies for that. At the same time, I want to be pragmatic, so I'm not gonna put mud tires on there. So, the LTX A/T2 seems like it might be the sweet spot for me.
I appreciate any further insights.

Oh, I almost forgot a couple nasty snow storms we wandered into, and we were one of the few they had very little problem making it up steep grades. We don't get much rain in these parts, but have had it in a few down-pours. I don't remember ever hydroplaning once.
I too have considered the Micky A/T2s, as the Revos are just pricey - but they are, without a doubt, a premium, all around sport utility tire in my book.
I am approaching 60K on my Revos, and there has not been one single issue with them. They are very close to the wear bars now, and I will need to replace soon. I have rotated them about every 10k, and kept 36-38 PSI in them. Also have pulled a 25' travel trailer for about 15k miles. Lastly, they have taken us offroad on various occasions, mostly class 3-4, but also up to a class 6, and never failed to get us back.zeppelin said:

Got my LTX AT2's
Just wanted to post up an update on my new LTX AT2's.
Picked them up a few weeks back at Costco - they were running the $80 discount for the tires.
I have a 2006 SR5. I got 50K out of the stock Bridgestone 864's which was great, but they were down to the wear marks.
Since having the stock tires replaced with stock size 265/65/17 AT2's, I could not be happier so far. They look great on the vehicle and have already gotten a few compliments.
They are quiet on the road at all speeds, which was my main consideration when going to an AT tire. I think gas mileage has gone down by about 1 mpg, but that is well worth it for such a superior tire.
At Costco, I had then inflate the tires to 40psi which seems to be perfect. The ride is smooth and composed with nice sidewall stiffness. The ride has not been compromised in either noise or actual feel, so I am happy with that.
I have only had them in the wet once and they performed well. As we are coming up to ski season, I will see how they perform in the snow over the next few months.
All in all I am pleased. I wanted the best of both worlds - being a quiet tire that rode well and was not obnoxious on the road as that is where I spend most of my time, but also have to capability to take my off the path as I camp and explore quite a bit.
I think Michelin did a good job here. We will have to wait and see the snow performance and treadlife longevity.
Will update as I have more experience with them.

I was considering both the LTX AT2's and the Revo's but when I went to check out the LTX AT2's at my local tire shop, they just looked too plain and wimpy. The tread pattern isn't really aggressive at all for an "A/T" tire. The Revo's are nice, but I have heard stories that they aren't that great in the snow.
Both tires you listed are nice. But I think the Silent Armor's should be added to that list. I got them almost 2 weeks ago and they are awesome!:awais:

The bad reviews fell into two categories IMHO: 1) There were a few that may have reviewed the model of tire. 2) It seems as though they were ligit gripes but most of those posts seem to be 2 years old or older. It's as if Goodyear may have done an update of the compound or something about 2 years ago.
I want a set of 255/75/17's so bad I can taste it!

They are awesome tires!!! The tread is very aggressive and good looking. I have yet to take them off-road but I am really looking forward to when I do. They are supposed to be amazing in the snow, so, needless to say, I am looking forward to this winter!
