The order for best A/Ts according to TireRack survey results are:

Perelli Scorpion
Firestone Destination (surprise!)
Michelin AT2
Goodyear SA
Bridgestone Revos
Yokohama Geolander
General Grabber AT2

You are correct. All three of these tires are very pricey. But, I guess that's just the price you pay (pun intended) for a quality product. Mine were a little over $1,000 after tax!!! Honestly though, I think anyone that buys either of these tires can't go wrong. They are all awesome in their own right.

Just wanted to post up an update on my new LTX AT2's.


I think Michelin did a good job here. We will have to wait and see the snow performance and treadlife longevity.

Will update as I have more experience with them.

I have heard nothing but good things about the LTX AT2's performance in the snow. That is one of the main things that caught my attention about them when I was looking for new tires. That, and the fact that they are Michelin's and will last forever.

Tire pressure

I se some of you are inflating their LTX AT/2s to higher pressure than what's recommended in the manual. Can you please educate a newbie, like me, on the advantages of that? Wouldn't that cause an uneven wear of the tire?
Also, what is the magic of balancing these tires? I just bought a new set at COSTCO and have been back already for rebalancing but the tires are still not OK above 60 MPH.

If the tire is rated for 44psi max rather than the more typical 35psi some enjoy better mpg, better handling and more resistance to hydroplaning by inflating to the high 30's or even 40psi. As far as wear goes it is possible to overinflate and wear the centers. Within the 265/xx/xx size no one has complained about abnormal wear from over inflation.

I run my tires at 40.

They wore great, stayed in balance for 50k and
improved my traction in snow conditions.

if you are running different tires than stock , you need to run what the tires specs are , not the manual says .

Just got back from another COSTCO tire center and the tires are perfect! Apparently it is possible (quite possible in deed) to have these tires balanced well.
