Michelin LTX M/S 2

Ran the OE Duelers as long as I could stand them. Hydroplane in a thimbal's amount of rain, so after 62K, they had to go.

Priced and finally pulled the trigger on some LTX M/S 2's today. Just a short drive home but all seems really good. They come very highly rated by Tire Rack so I hope I did well.

I will update after a day or two.

Surprised you got 62k out of the Dunlops. I couldn't stand them after 44k. A coworker of mine has squeezed 68k out of them on his Tacoma.

I can't remember for the life of me where I compared the LTX M/s2, but they are an excellent tire. Lots of fans of that tire, me included. I want to say that they have a 70k warrantee

I had the LTX MS2's put on a few months ago, so probably approaching 10K miles on them. I had the Dunlops until about 55K, then switched to Goodyear Fortera Tripletreads and those went until about 120K (still had some life on them, but wanted something new before winter), and now of course the LTX MS2s.

This obviously goes without saying, but both the Tripletread and LTX MS2 are way better than the Dunlops. The Tripletreads were absolutely amazing in the rain, stuck like glue, and awesome in the snow as well. But they also were significantly noisier in the rain. Very good tread wear too...got more than I figured I would. They also knocked my mileage down by 1-1.5 mpg until they started to wear a bit. The LTX MS2s seem to stick very well in the rain too, but without the added noise. Additionally, I have not noticed a significant drop in mileage. I have not had the chance to evaluate them in the snow yet. In normal driving, I find it hard to tell the difference between the two as far as ride comfort and noise...I would have had no problem buying the Tripletreads again, but just wanted a change.

Ultimately, I was able to find a killer deal on the LTX MS2s installed through Sears ($730 installed inc tax and $70 Michelin rebate), so I went with them and I have been very pleased so far. For those weighing the two, you can't go wrong with either one.

You can't go wrong with them other than the fact that I personally find Michellin tires to be made of harder compounds than other tires and I consider that the reason why my experience with then in wet weather puts their traction below par. They're also pricey for the bang-for-the-buck.

There are other tires costing much less that I've had very good experience with, 2 of which being the Firestone Destination LT's and Destination AT's (the later of which performed as well as or better in snow than the Bridgestone REVO's and Michellin LTX M/S's I've previously ran).

Please give us periodic updates. My Dueler H/T's are at 34k, and I already started loosing traction when wet and they started screaming during parking. I am pretty sure I am gonna get the MS2's as well. So any info you can feed us is awesome. plus, most people here use All terrains, it's good to get some Highway all season reviews....

I have the Michelin's and they offer a VERY nice ride on the highway and traction is great wet or dry. No offroading on them yet , though.

My 2004 w/ 17" wheels were Dunlops...I think they varied.

Allegro, I think you'll like the M/S 2s. My OEM tires on my '07 Limited are the (now discontinued) Michelin Cross Terrains. They are very similar to the M/S 2s.

Currently I have 71K on my CTs but I still can't justify replacing them yet as I'm not even down to the wear marks yet. Most likely I will replace them with the M/S 2s when the time comes.

The Cts are the smoothest and best wearing tires I have ever owned. They are great in rain and incredible in a foot of snow! Road noise is nonexistent.

Yes the Michelin's are more expensive.........and a perfect example of getting what you pay for.

UPDATE

Well they are still holding air and have not thrown the tread off after nearly a week. LOL

All kidding aside, they seem to be living up to the hype here on T4R.ORG and on the Tire Rack site. Ride is great again and steering-response has improve greatly over the OE Duelers. Still no rain here in the MEM area, but it is soon on its way. I feel certain that these Michelins will live up to what everyone has said.

FINAL UPDATE December 22, 2010


Well nearly a month now and here's what I have determined:

The tires are all they are touted to be. Quiet, smooth and grippy.

They are a bit more firm than the OE 840's that come on my Limited, but not enough to make any real difference. The trade-off for the additional firmness is a better cornering ability. I will take that trade every day of the week.

My biggest dislike is the sidewall. It is just too busy and not very attractive for highway all-season tires. Again, no big deal, just my observation.

CONCLUSION: If you are willing to spend ten Franklins, these are incredible tires. I recommend them completely. My hope is to get at least the 70K they are supposed to run, and enjoy my T4R for many years.

I've had mine for two months. I own a 04 sport and went up a size to the 70s. They are very smooth-riding. I drive mostly on the highway. ... highly recommended
