Micron Air Filter

I just had some maintenance done on my '03 4Runner Ltd. V8 at the dealer.

They recommended I replace the air filter AND the "micron air filter". The micron air filter was 60 bucks (parts and labor)!!

I've never heard this micron filter thing before. Can anyone shed some light on what this is, or does?

Thanks.

$60! That must be for the a/c filter described in your owner's glovebox manual. You should be able to take it out and clean it yourself but I guess the dealer thought you needed a replacement. I believe we're supposed to check them every 10k miles or so.

You two were right. It was for the interior cabin air. I just noticed it's itemized that way on my bill. I asked the service woman what it was for, and where it was located, but she led me to believe it was for the engine. She did say it was located up under the dash... I should have put two and two together.

A 12 dollar filter and 48 bucks for labor! Sheesh how hard is it to get to!?? Lesson learned.

Thanks.

According to the installation instructions in the owner's manual, it doesn't look like it's that difficult to get to. I'm relieved to know it didn't cost anymore than $20.
